Build your homepage

Section titled “Build your homepage”

You will end up with a front page built from ready-made sections, set as your homepage in WordPress, with the width and title banner you want.

Before you start

Section titled “Before you start”
  • Reign is active.
  • Know whether your site is brand new. WordPress only offers starter pages until you publish your first post or page.
  • If you use a page builder such as Elementor, build the page there instead. See page builders.

Steps

Option A: start from Reign’s starter pages (fresh site only)

  1. Go to Appearance > Customize. On a brand-new site, starter pages appear in the preview: Welcome, About, Community and Contact. A Privacy Policy page is saved as a draft, and a primary menu links the pages.
  2. Select Publish to keep them.
  3. Go to Settings > Reading. Under Your homepage displays, choose A static page. In the Homepage list, choose Welcome. Select Save Changes.

If no starter pages appear, the site is no longer fresh. Use Option B.

Option B: build with block patterns

  1. Go to Pages > Add New and give the page a title, such as “Home”.
  2. Select the + button to open the inserter, then open the Patterns tab.
  3. Choose a Reign category such as Reign Hero, Reign Features, Reign Social Proof or Reign CTA. Select a pattern to add it.
  4. Change the text and images. Add or reorder sections until you are happy.
  5. Select Publish.
  6. Go to Settings > Reading, choose A static page, pick your page in Homepage, and select Save Changes.

Patterns use your colour palette and follow light and dark mode.

For more building pieces, install Wbcom Essential, which is part of Reign. Its blocks appear in the inserter under categories starting with Essential, such as Essential - Marketing for hero sections, pricing tables and calls to action.

Set the width and title banner for this page

  1. Open the page for editing. In the settings panel on the right, under the Page tab (select the panel icon at the top right if the panel is hidden), scroll past Move to trash to the Reign Custom Settings box and open its Layout tab.
  2. Set Content Layout to Full Width( No Subheader ) for a page with no sidebar and no title banner.
  3. Select Save at the top right.

The title banner is called the sub header. On pages it is already hidden by default. To hide it on every page at once, use Appearance > Customize > Sub Header > Hide Sub Header.

Check it worked

  1. Open your site’s web address with nothing after it. Your page should load.
  2. Look at it in a private window as a visitor would see it.
  3. Check there is no sidebar or title banner if you chose them off.

If something looks wrong

  • The homepage still shows latest posts. In Settings > Reading, make sure A static page is selected and a page is chosen in Homepage.
  • There is no title banner and I want one. Turn off Hide Page Sub Header under Appearance > Customize > Content Layouts > Page: Single, and check the global Hide Sub Header is off.
  • No starter pages. Your site already has published content. Use patterns.

Every Reign pattern

  • Reign Community Leaderboard: top contributors with avatars and contribution counts.

  • Stats Row: a row of key numbers.
  • Testimonials - Editorial 3-up: three customer quotes.
  • Logo Cloud - Trusted by: a row of partner or customer logos.
