Reign widgets, shortcodes and widget areas

Reign adds eight widgets, seven shortcodes and a set of widget areas to your site. Widgets and widget areas live under Appearance > Widgets. Shortcodes are short tags you type into any page, post or text block.

Some items only exist when a plugin is active. The tables below name the plugin for each one. If a widget is missing from the list, activate the plugin it needs.

Widgets

Go to Appearance > Widgets, open a widget area, select the + button, and search for the widget name (for example “Reign - Groups”). Set the fields below and select Update.

Reign - News Widget

Needs: no plugin.

Shows your latest blog posts as a small list with a thumbnail, the post title and the date. The list is cached for 10 minutes.

Reign - Site Wide Activity

Needs: BuddyPress with the Activity component on.

Shows a live feed of community activity with a View All button that opens your activity page.

Show Activity Content	No	Shows the text of each update, not just the action line.
Limit activity content to	0	Cuts each update to this many words. Zero means no limit.
Show Activity Filters	Yes	Shows filter links above the feed.
Include only following Filters	none ticked (all)	Tick activity types to show only those.
Exclude following Components activity	none ticked	Tick activity types to hide them.

Reign - Product Categories

Needs: WooCommerce.

Shows your product categories as image tiles. Empty categories and “Uncategorized” are left out.

Show parent categories only	Off	Hides subcategories.
Show product counts	On	Shows “Items” under the name.
Enable slider	Off	Turns the row into a slider.
Layout	Layout - 1	Picks the tile design, Layout - 1 to Layout - 6 (see below).
Selected Categories: (comma-separated IDs)	empty (all)	Type category IDs such as 12,15,20 to show only those.

What each layout shows:

• Layout - 1: category image as background, name, product count and a Shop Now button.
• Layout - 2: category image as background, name and product count. No button.
• Layout - 3 and Layout - 4: image, Shop Now button, name and count, without a background image. The two differ in styling.
• Layout - 5: image, name, count, then the Shop Now button.
• Layout - 6: count, image, name, then the Shop Now button.

Reign - Login

Needs: BuddyPress. This is the “BP Login” widget.

Shows a login form. A logged-in visitor does not need it, so place it in a sidebar for visitors.

Login Custom URL	empty	The address used when Login Redirect is Custom page.
Login description	empty	Text under the form. When empty, Reign shows “Don’t have an account? Register Now! it’s simple and you’ll enjoy all the benefits!” with a link to your registration page.

Reign - Groups

Needs: BuddyPress with the User Groups component on.

Shows a grid of groups with the group picture, name, member count, last active time, a short description and the group admins.

Reign - Groups Carousel

Needs: BuddyPress with the User Groups component on.

Shows groups as a slider of cards, each with a cover image, group picture and name. The title links to your groups page.

Reign - Members Carousel

Needs: BuddyPress.

Shows members as a slider of cards with a cover image, picture, online status and name.

Display Member Name	Show	Show or Hide each member’s name.

Reign - Profile Completion

Needs: BuddyPress.

Shows a progress bar of how complete the logged-in member’s profile is. It shows only to logged-in members, and not while they view someone else’s profile.

Profile field sets	none ticked (all)	Tick the profile field groups that count toward progress.
Profile photos	none ticked (all available)	Tick Profile Photo and Cover Photo to count them. A photo type is listed only when members can upload it.
Hide widget once progress hits 100%	Off	Removes the widget when a member’s profile is complete.

If you tick nothing, Reign counts every profile field group and every photo type that members can upload.

Shortcodes

Type a shortcode into a Shortcode block, or into any text area. Wrap values in quotes. Leave out an attribute to use its default.

For attributes marked “on or off” below, any text counts as on. To turn one off, set it to 0, for example show_count="0".

bp_group_carousel

Needs: BuddyPress with the User Groups component on.

A slider of group cards with cover image, picture and name.

reign_bp_user_menu

Needs: no plugin for the tag itself. It is built for community sites.

Shows a member’s avatar button when logged in. When logged out it shows a login icon, and a register icon if your site allows registration. It has no attributes.

reign_display_posts

Needs: no plugin.

Lists posts in the same card style as your blog archive. Pagination links appear under the list.

reign_woo_product_layout

Needs: WooCommerce.

Shows products using one of Reign’s product card layouts.

rg_woo_product_categories

Needs: WooCommerce.

Shows product category tiles, the same as the Reign - Product Categories widget. The title attribute is accepted but the shortcode does not print it.

rg_woo_product_category_with_subcategory

Needs: WooCommerce.

Shows top-level product categories, each with a list of its subcategory links. Categories without subcategories are skipped. The title attribute is accepted but not printed, and layout only changes the tile styling class.

Widget areas

Widget areas are the places on your site where widgets can go. Find them in Appearance > Widgets. A widget area shows on your site only when it contains at least one widget.

Always available

Widget area	Where it appears
Right Sidebar	The right column on any page whose layout has a right sidebar. This is the default sidebar for every content type.
Left Sidebar	The left column on any page whose layout has a left sidebar.
Footer Widget Area	The widget row in your site footer.

You can choose a different widget area for a page, post type or search results. See Choose page layouts and sidebars.

WooCommerce

These exist when WooCommerce is active.

Widget area	Where it appears
WooCommerce Right Sidebar	Right column on shop, product, cart, checkout and product category pages, unless you picked another sidebar.
WooCommerce Left Sidebar	Left column on those pages.
Off Canvas Sidebar	The filter panel that opens from the shop’s filter button. It exists only when Display Filter Button is on in the Customizer’s WooCommerce shop section.

BuddyPress

These exist when BuddyPress is active and Youzify is not.

Groups Index	Sidebar on the groups directory.
Member Index	Sidebar on the members directory.
Activity Index	Sidebar on the activity directory. It is also used for the documents and media pages and the registration page when they show a sidebar.
Group Single	Sidebar inside a single group.
Member Profile	Sidebar on a member’s profile.

Each directory sidebar shows only when its Customizer sidebar layout for that directory includes a right sidebar.

Shops and stores

Learning

These two exist when LearnDash is active and the LearnMate LearnDash add-on is not. Their names use your LearnDash labels. With the default labels they read LD Single Course Sidebar and LD Single Group Sidebar.

Header

Widget area	Exists when	Where it appears
Header Widget Area	PeepSo is active	The logged-in member area of the header and the mobile header. Reign adds the PeepSo user bar widget here for notification icons.

Widget areas not listed here come from other plugins or add-ons, not from the Reign theme.

Page template: PeepSo Layout

When you edit a page, open Page settings and choose Template. One of the choices is PeepSo Layout. It shows the page content inside Reign’s standard content area and handles the PeepSo header position for PeepSo profile and group pages.

Reign’s PeepSo setup assigns this template to the PeepSo profile and groups pages. If PeepSo is not active, Reign hides PeepSo Layout from the template list, because the template shows no page content without PeepSo.
