Troubleshooting Posts Not Showing

BuddyPress Member Blog overviewFree + ProGet BuddyPress Member Blog →

Use this page when a post exists but does not appear where you expect: on the site, in a member’s Blog tab, on the dashboard, in a shortcode or in the activity feed.

  1. Is the post published, or is it pending review, a draft or scheduled?
  2. Are you looking as the right person? Visitors see published posts only.
  3. Have you cleared your page cache and object cache?
  4. Is the feature that shows it switched on?

Most “missing” posts are not published yet. Find the post under Posts > All Posts, or in the member’s blog home.

Status Who sees it Where it lives What to do
Published Everyone Published tab, site, shortcodes Should be visible; check caching
Pending The author, editors, administrators Pending tab, Posts > Member submissions Approve it
Draft The author, editors, administrators Drafts tab The author submits it
Scheduled (Pro) The author, editors, administrators Calendar tab and the scheduled posts list, not the Published tab It goes live at its date
Private The author, editors, administrators Published tab with a Private badge Visible only to those people, by design

On a new site Publish immediately is off, so every member post starts in Pending. See Common issues.

A post that was sent back by a reviewer is a Draft again, with the reviewer’s reason on its card.

  • A visitor sees only Published. Drafts, Pending and private posts are shown only to the author, editors and administrators.
  • Co-authored posts. A member’s Published tab and count include posts they co-authored (Pro).
  • Category filter. If the list has a category filter (Pro), set it back to All categories.
  • Search. Clear the search box above the list.
  • Posts per page. Long lists are paged; use the page links. The page size is Content > Posts per page (10 by default).

The Blog tab on a profile and the My Blog Dashboard page show the same tabs and counts. If they disagree, clear your object cache.

  1. Check the attributes. An attribute pointing at the wrong user, an empty category or a count of 0 returns nothing.
  2. Test the simplest version, such as [bp-member-blog-recent], on a new page. If that works, the problem is an attribute.
  3. When a shortcode has nothing to show, it prints a short empty-state message. Administrators also see a hint on how to fix it; other visitors do not.
  4. Shortcodes list published posts only.

See Shortcodes for every attribute.

  • BuddyPress and BuddyBoss. The Activity component must be active, Content > Rich activity feed posts must be on, and only published posts create an entry.
  • PeepSo. PeepSo creates the entry. Turn on Publish blog posts to activity stream under PeepSo > Configuration > Blog Posts.
  • Posts published before the setting was turned on do not get an entry.

Writer profile or topic hub not showing member posts

Section titled “Writer profile or topic hub not showing member posts”

Writer profiles (/author/{name}/) and topic hubs (category and tag pages) replace your theme’s archives only when switched on under Features. They are off on a new site. If they are on and show nothing, re-save Settings > Permalinks and clear caches. See Writer profiles and Topic hubs.

Scheduled posts rely on WP-Cron. On a quiet site, or with DISABLE_WP_CRON set and no server cron, they can miss their time. Add a server cron job. With review on, a scheduled post must also be approved first; it then publishes at its date. See Scheduling.

New posts can be hidden behind a cache. Clear, in order:

  1. Your page cache plugin (WP Rocket, LiteSpeed Cache, W3 Total Cache and similar).
  2. Your host or CDN cache (Cloudflare, Varnish).
  3. Your object cache (Redis, Memcached). With WP-CLI: wp cache flush.
  4. Your browser: hard refresh with Ctrl+Shift+R, or Cmd+Shift+R on a Mac.

Go to Settings > Permalinks and click Save Changes. This rebuilds the rewrite rules, including the Blog tab slug after you change Blog Tab URL Slug.

  • Authors. User IDs can change between sites. Check each post’s author is a real user on the new site.
  • Permalinks. Re-save Settings > Permalinks.
  • Pages. Check the submission and dashboard pages are still mapped under Pages.
