Featured posts are your editorial picks: member posts you want on the homepage, in a sidebar or at the top of a landing page. Editors pick them from the WordPress posts list, and the Featured Posts block or [bp-member-blog-featured] shortcode shows them anywhere.

This is site-wide featuring. WB Member Blog Pro’s Group Blogs module has its own featured posts inside a single BuddyPress group, which is a separate feature.

There is no switch for this feature: it is always available to editors and administrators.

Editors and administrators (anyone with the capability to edit others’ posts). Authors and members cannot feature their own posts, so “featured” stays an editorial choice.

  1. Go to Posts > All Posts.
  2. Hover over a published post and click Feature.
  3. To remove it, hover over it and click Unfeature.

To feature several at once, tick the posts, choose Feature or Unfeature from Bulk actions, and click Apply. A notice confirms how many posts were featured or unfeatured.

The Featured column shows a star next to each featured post. Click the column heading to sort by it.

Only published posts can be featured. The Feature action is not offered on drafts or pending posts.

Unpublishing un-features. When a featured post is moved back to draft, pending, private or trash, it stops being featured. Publishing it again does not re-feature it; feature it again if you still want it.

  1. Create or edit a page.

  2. Add the Featured Posts block, or the shortcode:

    [bp-member-blog-featured per_page="6" columns="3" title="Editor's picks"]
  3. Publish the page.

Attribute What it does Default
per_page How many featured posts to show, 1 to 24 3
columns Grid columns, 1 to 4 3
category Only featured posts in this category (slug or ID) (empty)
tag Only featured posts with this tag (slug or ID) (empty)
title Heading above the grid (empty)
class Extra CSS class on the wrapper (empty)

Featured posts are shown newest first. The list does not page: it shows the first per_page posts.

When nothing is featured, visitors see “No featured posts yet” with a short line under it, so your page does not show an empty gap. Administrators also see how to feature a post, with a link to the posts list.
