The Access tab decides who can write posts, and whether their posts go live straight away or wait for review. The review switch here is the only switch in the plugin that holds member posts for approval.

Go to WB Plugins > Member Blog > Access.

Setting What it does Default on a new site
Allowed User Roles The roles that can create posts. Administrators can always post and are not listed. Editor, Author and Subscriber
Allowed Member Types Only with BuddyPress member types defined. Members of the ticked types can post even if their role is not allowed. Leave all unticked to skip this check. None ticked
Publish immediately “Publish member posts immediately without admin approval.” Off means every member post waits for review. Off (review first)

Sites that installed an earlier version keep the choices they already made.

  1. Under Allowed User Roles, tick each role that may create posts. Select all and Clear all tick or clear every role. The count above the list reads, for example, “3 of 6 roles selected”.
  2. If you use BuddyPress member types, tick any types that may post under Allowed Member Types.
  3. Click Save Settings.

A member can post if they have an allowed role or an allowed member type. Either one is enough.

When no role is ticked, the tab warns “No user roles are currently allowed to create posts.” and the Overview tab shows Allowed User Roles as not configured. Only administrators can post until you tick a role.

What a member who cannot post sees. On the post form page they see “You are not allowed to access this page.” Members who cannot write still have a reading home with their Saved posts and the writers they follow.

Publish immediately is the moderation switch.

Publish immediately What happens when a member submits
Off The post waits as Pending in Posts > Member submissions until an administrator or editor approves it. Scheduled posts wait too, and publish at their scheduled time once approved.
On The post is published as soon as the member submits it.

New sites start with review on. Turn Publish immediately on when you trust your members to publish without a check.

The Open the review queue link under the setting goes straight to the waiting posts. While review is on, or while posts are waiting, the Overview tab shows a Needs review card with the count.

With WB Member Blog Pro’s Co-Authors module active, a note under the setting explains that Pro’s Editorial Workflow adds reviewer roles and front-end review buttons on top of this switch; it does not add a second switch.

Posting limits and post credits (Pro) never stop a member from opening the form or editing a post. They only stop publishing a new post, and the member is told why.
