Invitations, Editing Together and Removing Co-Authors

Pro. This feature requires WB Member Blog Pro. The free plugin must be installed and active first. See the Pro index for every Pro module.

What happens after an invitation is sent: how the invited member answers it, how co-authors edit without overwriting each other, and how authors and site owners tidy up.

  1. Go to your blog home and open the Settings tab.
  2. Open the Co-Authors section. Each invitation shows the post, who invited you and when, and when it expires.
  3. Click Accept or Decline.

Links in the invitation email and notification take you to the same place. When you have no invitations, the section says No co-author invitations.

After you accept:

  • You can open the post in the post form and edit it.
  • Your name is added to the byline.
  • The author is told, by email and on-site notification if they receive them.

If you decline, the author is told and the invitation is removed. An invitation past its expiry date can no longer be accepted; the author can invite you again.

Site owners can show the same list on any page with [bp-member-blog-invitations] or the Co-Author Invitations block. It has no attributes and shows the logged-in member’s own invitations.

When someone opens a shared post for editing, the post is locked to them for the Editing Session Length set by the site (15 minutes by default).

  • Anyone else who opens the post sees “This post is currently being edited by” followed by the name, and cannot save changes.
  • They can click Take Over to take the lock and continue editing.
  • The lock ends when the session length passes without activity.

This stops two people from overwriting each other’s work.

  1. Open the post in the post form.
  2. In Post settings > Collaboration, click the cross next to the co-author’s name.

Removing a co-author takes them off the byline and ends their editing access. It does not change the post.

  1. Go to WB Plugins > Member Blog > Co-Authors.
  2. In Pending Invitations, find the invitation by post, sender or invitee.
  3. Click Revoke and confirm. The invitation is cancelled immediately.

The table lists up to 200 open invitations and stacks into cards on phones.
