Pro. This feature requires WB Member Blog Pro. The free plugin must be installed and active first. See the Pro index for every Pro module.

Give each WordPress role, and each BuddyPress or BuddyBoss member type, its own posting allowance. Use role limits for a simple tiered site (subscribers post less than authors). Use member-type limits when everyone shares one WordPress role but belongs to different groups, such as Student and Instructor.

When Pro is first activated it adds one role limit: Subscriber, at 100 per hour, 100 per day, 100 per week, 1000 per month and 1000 per year. That is loose enough not to get in anyone’s way. Edit or remove it to suit your site.

  1. Go to WB Plugins > Member Blog > Restrictions.
  2. In the Role-Based Limits card, click Add Role.
  3. Pick a role from Select Role:. Administrator is not listed, because administrators are never limited. Roles that already have a limit are not listed either.
  4. Fill in Per Hour, Per Day, Per Week, Per Month and Per Year. Leave a period empty, or enter 0, for no limit in that period.
  5. Click Add Role Limit.
  6. Click Save Settings at the bottom of the tab. Nothing is saved until you do.

Each configured role shows as a card with its five limits; an unlimited period shows as the infinity sign. Use the pencil button to change a role’s limits (then Apply Changes and Save Settings), or the trash button to remove the role’s limit.

The Member Type Limits card appears only when BuddyPress or BuddyBoss is active and at least one member type exists.

  1. In the Member Type Limits card, click Add Member Type.
  2. Pick a type from Select Member Type:.
  3. Fill in the five periods, as for a role.
  4. Click Add Member Type Limit, then Save Settings.

When a member has a member type with limits, their role limits are skipped entirely. A member with several limited member types gets the tightest value for each period across all of them, so assigning a second, looser type does not raise their allowance.

Field Counts posts published Resets
Per Hour This hour At the top of the next hour
Per Day Today At midnight (site timezone)
Per Week This week, from Monday Next Monday
Per Month This month, from the 1st On the 1st of next month
Per Year This year, from 1 January On 1 January

All periods are checked independently and the most restrictive one applies. Only published posts count: drafts, pending posts and scheduled posts that have not gone live do not use up an allowance.

A limited member sees a line above their Published list with the posts left and the reset date, a warning above the form as they approach a limit (when Limit Warning is on), and a banner naming the limit and reset date once they reach it. They can still write, save drafts and update live posts. See Posting Limits and Restrictions for the details.
