This page covers what your site needs before you install WB Member Blog, how to install it, and what the plugin sets up on activation.
Requirements
Section titled “Requirements”| Requirement | Minimum | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| WordPress | 6.5 | Tested up to 7.1. |
| PHP | 8.0 | Tested through PHP 8.5. Below 8.0 the plugin does not load and says so on the Plugins screen. |
| Community plugin | None | Optional. BuddyPress, BuddyBoss Platform or PeepSo add profile integration. |
| PeepSo (if used) | 9.0 | Install PeepSo from peepso.com. The old build on wordpress.org (6.4.6.2) cannot start on PHP 8. |
WB Member Blog Pro has the same WordPress and PHP requirements and also needs the free plugin, at the same version, installed and active first. See Free and Pro.

Section titled “Install the free plugin”From the WordPress admin

buddypress-member-blogzip file and click Install Now. - Click Activate Plugin.
By FTP

What activation does
Section titled “What activation does”- Adds WB Plugins > Member Blog to the admin menu.
- Creates two pages if they do not exist yet: Add new post with the
[bp-member-blog]shortcode (the post composer) and My Blog Dashboard with the[member-blog-dashboard]shortcode (the member home). - On a new site, saves the starting settings described in the Quick Setup Guide. On a site that already had the plugin, your saved settings are kept.

Check the install
Section titled “Check the install”- Go to WB Plugins > Member Blog > Overview.
- Under Configuration Status, confirm that Blog Submission Page, Member Dashboard Page, Editor Type and Allowed User Roles are all set.
- Open the My Blog Dashboard page while logged in. You should see your member home with a Create Post button.
Updating
Section titled “Updating”Free and Pro are released together at the same version number. Update both at the same time. If Pro finds an older free plugin, it pauses itself with a notice and starts again once the free plugin is updated.
Removing the plugin
Section titled “Removing the plugin”Deactivating never touches your data. Deleting the plugin removes its settings. Members’ reading lists, follows, claps, view history and writer statistics are kept unless you tick Also delete all Member Blog data under Member Blog > Content > Danger zone. Blog posts are never deleted.
Installation problems
Section titled “Installation problems”- “Plugin could not be activated” or a notice about PHP. Your server runs PHP below 8.0. Ask your host to upgrade, then reactivate.
- Fatal error on activation. Deactivate other plugins, activate WB Member Blog, then reactivate the others one at a time to find the conflict.
- The zip upload fails. Upload the unzipped folder by FTP instead.
