Conditional logic shows a field only when another field has a certain answer. The post form stays short: members see the follow-up question only when it applies.

For example: show Event date only when Post type equals event.

A condition has three parts, set on the field you want to show or hide:

Show this field when: [controlling field] [equals / does not equal / contains] [value]

Operator The field shows when the controlling field’s answer
equals is exactly the value
does not equal is anything other than the value
contains includes the value, for example one of several ticked checkboxes

Matching ignores upper and lower case. Compare against the stored Option Values, not the labels.

Only Dropdown, Radio Buttons and Checkboxes fields can control a condition.

  1. Create the controlling field first, for example a Dropdown called “Post type” with the option values article, event and review.
  2. Create or edit the field that should appear, for example a Date field called “Event date”.
  3. Under Conditional Logic, turn on Enable conditional display.
  4. In Show this field when:, pick “Post type”, choose equals, and type event.
  5. Click Save Field.

The field shows a Conditional badge in the list.

  • The conditional field is hidden until the controlling field has a matching answer, then it slides into view.
  • If the member changes the answer, the field hides again.
  • A hidden field is never required, even if you marked it required. It only has to be filled in while it is showing.
  • Keep conditions one level deep: a controlling field that is itself conditional is harder for members to follow.
  • For Checkboxes, use contains so the field shows whenever that box is one of those ticked.
