Pro. This feature requires WB Member Blog Pro. The free plugin must be installed and active first. See the Pro index for every Pro module.

This page walks through adding a field to the post form, editing it later and removing it.

  • The Custom Fields module is on (it is by default).
  • You have decided what to ask and which field type fits.
  1. Go to WB Plugins > Member Blog > Custom Fields.
  2. Click Add Field.
  3. Under Field Type, click the type you want, for example Dropdown.
  4. Under Basic Settings, enter the Label, for example “Difficulty”. The Field ID fills in from the label (difficulty). Change it now if you want a different ID; it must be unique.
  5. Turn on This field is required if every post must have it.
  6. Leave Show this field on post page on to show the answer under the post, or turn it off to collect it privately.
  7. Fill in the type’s own settings, for example Option Values for a dropdown. See Field Types.
  8. Optional: set a Placeholder or Default Value.
  9. Optional: under Conditional Logic, turn on Enable conditional display. See Show Fields Only When Needed.
  10. Click Save Field.

The field appears in the list and on the post form straight away.

Setting Value
Field Type Dropdown
Label How hard is this to try yourself?
Field ID difficulty
Option Values easy, medium, hard (one per line)
Option Labels (optional) Anyone can, Some practice, Genuinely difficult (one per line)

Members pick a label; the matching value is saved.

  • Quick edit changes the label and whether it shows on posts, without leaving the list. Click Save.
  • Full edit opens every setting of the field. Click Save Field when done.

Drag fields in the list. The post form shows them in the same order.

Click Delete on the field and confirm. The field disappears from the post form and from posts.

On the post form, the fields are under Post settings > Details.

  • A required field that is left empty keeps the post as a draft when the member publishes. The form says “Your post was saved as a draft because the following required fields were empty:” and lists them.
  • A number outside its limits gets a message such as “Rating must be no more than 10.”
  • A field hidden by conditional logic is never required while it is hidden.
