Pro. This feature requires WB Member Blog Pro. The free plugin must be installed and active first. See the Pro index for every Pro module.
Set a minimum and a maximum number of words for posts that go live. Use a minimum to keep out one-line posts, and a maximum to keep posts readable. Word limits are part of the Post Restrictions module.
Set Word Limits
Section titled “Set Word Limits”- Go to WB Plugins > Member Blog > Restrictions.
- In Global Settings, find Word Count Limits.
- Enter a value in Min: and in Max:. Enter 0 to switch that end off.
- Click Save Settings.
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Min | Fewest words a post needs to be published or sent for review | 0 (off) |
| Max | Most words a post may have to be published or sent for review | 0 (off) |
One limit applies to every member; there is no per-role word limit. If you save a minimum higher than the maximum, the tab refuses the change and keeps your previous limits, because no post could ever pass.
When Word Limits Apply
Section titled “When Word Limits Apply”Word limits apply only when a post goes live:
| Action | Checked? |
|---|---|
| Publishing a new post | Yes |
| Submitting a post for review | Yes |
| A scheduled post reaching its publish date | Yes, for a post written through Member Blog. A post under the minimum goes back to draft instead of publishing. |
| Saving a draft | No |
| Updating a post that is already published | No |
| Saving a post from the WordPress dashboard (block editor, classic editor, Quick Edit, bulk edit) | No. Word limits belong to the member form and front-end editor, so the dashboard is never held to them. |
So a member can save unfinished work at any length, and an author can fix a typo in a post published before you set a limit. Administrators and members on the Exempt Users list skip word limits.
What Members See
Section titled “What Members See”When a member publishes or submits a post outside the range, the post is not saved as live and the form shows the reason, for example:
- “Your post has 150 words. Minimum required is 200 words.”
- “Your post has 5500 words. Maximum allowed is 5000 words.”
The member can add or trim text and try again, or save the post as a draft.
Words are counted the same way for every language. Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Cyrillic, Greek and accented text are counted correctly.
