Pro. This feature requires WB Member Blog Pro. The free plugin must be installed and active first. See the Pro index for every Pro module.
This page covers the everyday work: starting a series, putting posts into it, changing their order, and renaming or deleting a series. Members do this from the post form and their Settings tab. Editors have a WordPress admin screen as well.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- The Post Series module is on (see Series).
- You can write posts on the site.
Start a series from the post form
Section titled “Start a series from the post form”- Open the post form (new post, or edit an existing one).
- Open Post settings and expand the Collaboration section.
- Under Series, click Create New Series.
- Type a name in New series name and click Create. The new series is selected for you.
- Save or publish the post. It becomes part 1 of the series.
If you type the name of a series you already own, the form selects that series instead of creating a second one. Two members can each have a series with the same name: each gets their own series, with its own page address.
Add a post to an existing series
Section titled “Add a post to an existing series”- Open the post form for the post.
- In Post settings > Collaboration, choose the series from the Series dropdown.
- Optional: set Order in series. Leave it empty to add the post as the next part.
- Save or publish the post.
The dropdown lists only the series you own. Editors and administrators see every series on the site.
To take a post out of a series, choose No series and save. The post stays published.
Reorder, rename or delete your series (members)
Section titled “Reorder, rename or delete your series (members)”Your series are managed from your member home.
- Go to your blog home and open the Settings tab.
- Open the Series section. It shows My Series, one card per series with its post count.
- To rename a series, change its description or mark it finished, click Edit, change Series Name, Description or Status (In Progress or Completed), then click Save.
- To change the order of parts, click Reorder Posts to open the list. Drag a post, or use its up and down arrow buttons, which also work with the keyboard and on a phone. The new order saves after each move.
- To delete a series, click Delete and confirm. The posts in it are not deleted.
If you have no series yet, the section says so and points you to the series selector in the post editor.
Manage any series (editors)
Section titled “Manage any series (editors)”Editors and administrators have two admin screens.
Posts > Series is the standard WordPress term screen. Use it to create a series without writing a post, rename one, edit its description or slug, set its Status, or delete it. It has search, pagination, and Author and Status columns. A series created here is owned by the user who created it.
WB Plugins > Member Blog > Series has the Manage Series table, with View Posts, View and Delete for each series. See Series.
In the WordPress post editor, the Post Series box lets an editor put a post into any series and set its Order in series.
- Series parts are numbered from 1 in the order you set. The number a reader sees always matches the position in the table of contents.
- Only published posts count as parts on the series page and in the navigation. Drafts in a series wait until they are published.
- A series appears in series lists once it has at least one published post.
