Candidate end to end
You can find a job, apply, track your application and, if things change, withdraw it. This walkthrough covers each step from the candidate side.
Step 1 - Browse before you register
Section titled “Step 1 - Browse before you register”You do not need an account to look around.
- Open the Find Jobs page, usually at
/find-jobs/. - Search by keyword, and narrow the results with the filters: Category, Job Type, Location, Experience, Min salary, Max salary and Remote only. The salary filters match the salary numbers employers entered, so compare jobs that use the same pay period and currency.
- Open a few listings and a few company profiles to see what the board offers.
Step 2 - Create an account
Section titled “Step 2 - Create an account”Visitors can apply without an account. The apply form asks guests for a name and email. An account lets you track applications, save jobs and manage your details, so it is worth creating one.
- Open the Candidate Dashboard while logged out and click Sign In, or click Create an account if it is shown.
- On the sign-up page, choose Find a Job, then enter your details. If the page says registration is closed, the site owner has turned off sign-ups.
- If the site asks you to confirm your email, open the link in your inbox, then sign in.
On most boards any logged-in member can use the candidate features straight away. If the site owner requires the Candidate role, they assign it to your account first.
Step 3 - Complete your profile
Section titled “Step 3 - Complete your profile”Open Candidate Dashboard > Account > Profile and fill in:
- Phone
- Location
- Bio / About Me
Click Save Profile. To change your display name, email or password, open Account > Settings. Changing your email needs your current password.
With Pro, the dashboard also has resume, alerts and public profile features. See the Pro docs page Resume builder.
Step 4 - Prepare your resume
Section titled “Step 4 - Prepare your resume”When you apply, you attach a resume file. Accepted formats are PDF, DOC and DOCX. The site owner sets the maximum file size, between 1 and 20 MB, and decides whether a resume is required. A resume is required by default.
With Pro, the My Resumes tab lets you build a resume on the dashboard and pick it when you apply. See the Pro docs page Resume builder.
Step 5 - Job alerts
Section titled “Step 5 - Job alerts”Job alerts are a Pro feature. See the Pro docs page Job alerts for how to set one up. Without Pro, check the board yourself and save the jobs you like.
Step 6 - Search and save jobs
Section titled “Step 6 - Search and save jobs”- Browse the board and open the listings that fit.
- Click Save this job on a job you want to come back to. It appears under Candidate Dashboard > Saved > Saved Jobs.
- Read the company profile. Remove a saved job from the Saved Jobs list if you change your mind.
- Apply to the jobs that fit your goals.
Report a bad listing
Section titled “Report a bad listing”If a listing looks like a scam, spam or is misleading, report it to the site’s moderators.
- Open the job page while signed in. You cannot report your own listing.
- Click Report this job.
- Choose a reason: scam or fraudulent, spam or advertisement, expired or already filled, inaccurate or misleading, or offensive or inappropriate.
- Click Submit report.
A moderator reviews reported jobs and either dismisses the report or unpublishes the job. You do not get a personal reply.
Step 7 - Apply
Section titled “Step 7 - Apply”- Open the job and click Apply Now. If the employer set an external application link, the button reads Apply on Company Site and takes you to the employer’s own page.
- If you are not signed in, enter your name and email.
- Upload your resume file. You can also write a cover letter, which is optional.
- Click Submit Application.
You receive an Application submitted successfully email. The button on the job page changes to Application Submitted, and the application appears under Candidate Dashboard > My Activity > My Applications.
A good cover letter names the role, gives one or two concrete examples of your background that match it, and mentions practical points such as notice period or location.
Step 8 - Track your applications
Section titled “Step 8 - Track your applications”Open Candidate Dashboard > My Applications. Each application shows its job and current status. When an employer changes the status, you receive an email and the dashboard updates. The statuses are:
- Submitted - the employer has your application and has not acted on it.
- Reviewing - the employer is looking at it.
- Shortlisted - you are under further consideration.
- Hired - the employer chose you.
- Not selected - the employer is not moving forward.
- Withdrawn - you withdrew the application.
- Job removed - the job was deleted. You can remove the row from your list.
- Position closed - the employer closed the job before deciding.
Step 9 - Withdraw an application
Section titled “Step 9 - Withdraw an application”You can withdraw an application until it has an outcome (Hired, Not selected or Position closed).
- Open My Applications.
- Click Withdraw on the application and confirm.
The application stays in your list as Withdrawn, and the employer is emailed. You can apply to the same job again later. If you do not see the Withdraw button, the site owner has turned withdrawals off.
Step 10 - Manage your email notifications
Section titled “Step 10 - Manage your email notifications”Open Account > Settings and find Email Notifications. The panel lists the emails you can turn off, such as the application deadline reminder. Emails about your account and applications are always sent. If no optional emails apply to you, the panel does not appear.
Step 11 - Export or delete your data
Section titled “Step 11 - Export or delete your data”Open Candidate Dashboard > Account > Settings and scroll to Privacy & My Data.
- Request data export - we email you to confirm the request, then send the file once the site has prepared it.
- Delete my account - enter your password and type DELETE to confirm, then click Schedule deletion. Your account is signed out everywhere and scheduled for deletion, 14 days later by default. To stop it, sign back in before the date and choose Keep my account.
You receive emails when deletion is requested, cancelled and completed. Deletion cannot be undone once it completes.

Section titled “Common candidate mistakes”- Applying with a blank profile. Fill in your profile before you apply.
