Applying for jobs
You can apply from the job page in a short form that slides in from the right. You do not leave the page.
Before you apply
Section titled “Before you apply”You can apply as a guest or as a signed-in member. Two site settings can change this:
- Require login to apply - the job page shows Sign in to apply instead of the form.
- Require Candidate Role - only accounts with the Candidate role can apply.
Members who post jobs (employers) cannot apply. Nobody can apply to their own job.
Some jobs send you to the employer’s own site. Those show Apply on Company Site instead of Apply Now.
How to apply
Section titled “How to apply”- Open a job page.
- Click Apply Now. The Apply for this job panel opens.
- Fill in the form.
- Click Submit Application.
Form fields
Section titled “Form fields”| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Your Name and Your Email | Shown to guests and required. Signed-in members do not see these fields |
| Select Resume | Signed-in members with Pro can pick a saved resume. Choose Upload a different file instead to upload a file |
| Resume | Upload a PDF, DOC or DOCX file. The default size limit is 5 MB, and the site owner can raise it up to 20 MB. A resume is required unless the site owner turns that off |
| Cover Letter | Optional |
| Screening questions | Shown when the employer added questions to the job. Answer the required ones to submit |
If you pick a resume you built in the resume builder and it has no uploaded PDF, Pro creates a PDF and attaches it for you.
Write your cover letter with AI (Pro)
Section titled “Write your cover letter with AI (Pro)”When Pro AI is set up, a Write with AI button appears next to the cover letter. Click it to have the assistant draft a letter, then edit the text before you submit.
After you apply
Section titled “After you apply”- You get a confirmation email.
- The employer gets an email about your application. If the site has turned on the AI notice, a short line above Submit Application says employers may use AI to help review applications.
- Signed-in members see the application under Candidate Dashboard > My Applications with the status Submitted.
- With Pro, signed-in members can click Get notified about similar jobs. It saves a daily job alert using that job’s title as the keyword, plus its category, job type and remote setting.
Withdraw an application
Section titled “Withdraw an application”- Go to Candidate Dashboard > My Applications.
- Find the application.
- Click Withdraw.
The application stays in your list marked Withdrawn, and the employer gets an email. You can withdraw until the application has an outcome: hired, not selected, or position closed. After you withdraw you can apply to the same job again.
The site owner can turn withdrawing off with Allow Withdraw under Career Board > Settings > Applications. When it is off, the Withdraw button does not appear.
Apply without an account
Section titled “Apply without an account”As a guest you enter your name and email in the form. You get a confirmation email and status emails, including a “not selected” email if the employer declines you. You cannot track or withdraw the application. A guest can send 10 applications an hour from one connection, and cannot apply to the same job again with the same email within 24 hours.
To track your applications, register as a candidate before you apply. See also Apply as a guest.
