Merging Duplicate Items
When two items ask for the same thing, merge one into the other so votes and discussion end up in one place.
As of 1.8.0, merging works from the item edit screen in both the classic and block editor. A form-nesting bug previously prevented the merge box’s own button from submitting; that is fixed.
How to merge
Section titled “How to merge”- Open the duplicate item you want to remove (Roadmap > All Items, then edit it).
- In the Merge Duplicates box in the sidebar, start typing the name of the item to keep. Suggestions are scoped to the source item’s own product.
- Pick the item from the suggestions, click Merge Into Selected, then confirm within the two-step confirmation.
You land on the item you kept, with a notice confirming the merge.
What happens on merge
Section titled “What happens on merge”- Votes move to the kept item. A user who voted on both items before the merge counts once afterward.
- Comments move to the kept item.
- The duplicate is trashed and marked “Merged into” the kept item. The kept item lists everything merged into it under Merge History.
Target picker
Section titled “Target picker”The target item search is scoped to the source item’s product, and as of 1.8.0 searches beyond the earlier 200-item cap, so large boards can find the right target even with many items on the same product.
Merging programmatically
Section titled “Merging programmatically”POST /wp-json/roadmap/v1/items/mergeBody:
{ "source_id": 123, "target_id": 456}The source_id item is trashed; the target_id item receives its votes and comments. The requesting user needs the edit_posts capability, and is then re-checked against each specific item: they must be allowed to delete the source item and edit the target item, not just hold a site-wide capability.
