Reminders and Background Jobs

Eventonomy overviewFree + ProGet Eventonomy →

Reminders, recurring-event updates and import cleanup run as scheduled background jobs. If they stall, nothing on the page shows an error, so check here.

Symptom: Attendees get a confirmation but no reminder 1 day or 1 hour before the event.

Cause: The hourly reminder job is not running. Common reasons: DISABLE_WP_CRON is set in wp-config.php with no real server cron behind it, your host blocks WordPress from calling itself, or the site has almost no traffic to trigger WP-Cron.

Fix:

  1. Go to Eventonomy → Setup & Health.
  2. Find Background tasks (WP-Cron) are running.
  3. If it warns that WP-Cron is disabled, ask your host to run wp-cron.php every few minutes with a system cron. Remove DISABLE_WP_CRON only if you do not want a system cron.
  4. If it says a task has been waiting for hours, your host is not triggering WP-Cron. Ask your host to run wp-cron.php on a schedule.

Reminders skip anyone who unsubscribed. See Emails Not Arriving.

Symptom: A repeating series ends sooner than expected.

Cause: A daily job extends each series as time passes. It uses the same background system, so a stalled WP-Cron stops it too.

Fix: Fix WP-Cron as above. You can also raise Expand recurring events up to (months ahead) in Settings → Appearance. See Recurring Events.

If Action Scheduler is on your site (WooCommerce installs it), Eventonomy uses it instead of WP-Cron for hourly jobs. Open Tools → Scheduled Actions and filter by the eventonomy group. Pro’s jobs use eventonomy-pro. Look for Past-due or Failed entries.

That is a search index problem, not a background job. See Events Missing from the List.
