Stripe Connect Payouts

Eventonomy overviewFree + ProGet Eventonomy →

Pro - Connecting organizer Stripe accounts and sending payouts through them requires Eventonomy Pro.

With Stripe Connect, each organizer links their own Stripe account, and when you run a payout their earnings are sent straight to it - no manual bank transfers. Organizers who have not connected an account are still paid the same way as before (recorded, settled out-of-band), so the two models work side by side.

This uses Standard Stripe accounts over the “Connect with Stripe” (OAuth) flow: organizers authorize an account they already own and keep full access to their own Stripe dashboard.

  • How the site owner enables Stripe Connect
  • How an organizer connects their Stripe account
  • How payouts reach connected organizers
  • What happens for organizers who have not connected
  1. You (the site owner) enable Connect once and set your platform fee.
  2. Each organizer clicks Connect with Stripe and authorizes their account.
  3. When you run a payout, Eventonomy sends each connected organizer’s balance to their Stripe account automatically; unconnected organizers are recorded as paid and settled out-of-band.

The platform is the merchant of record: you collect ticket money, keep your platform fee, and pay organizers their net. Refunds and refund-after-payout netting work exactly as described in Earnings & Payouts.

Go to Eventonomy -> Settings -> Payments, tick Track organizer earnings and take a platform fee, and set your fee (a percentage of each order, or a flat amount per order). This is also what gives organizers their Earnings dashboard. See Earnings & Payouts.

2. Set up Connect in your Stripe dashboard

Section titled “2. Set up Connect in your Stripe dashboard”

In your Stripe dashboard:

  • Connect -> Settings -> enable “OAuth for Stripe Dashboard accounts”.
  • Under Onboarding options -> Redirects, add the OAuth redirect URI shown on the Eventonomy settings screen (see step 3). It must match exactly.
  • Copy your Connect client ID (ca_...) from that screen.
  • Developers -> Webhooks -> add a Connect endpoint for the Connect webhook URL shown on the Eventonomy settings screen, listening for account.updated, and copy its signing secret (whsec_...).

Go to Settings -> Payments -> Stripe -> Stripe Connect and:

  • Tick “Let organizers connect their own Stripe account to receive payouts”.
  • Paste the Connect client ID.
  • Paste the Connect webhook signing secret.

The redirect URI and Connect webhook URL you need for Stripe are shown read-only on this same screen - copy them from there so they match.

Your Stripe secret key must already be saved in the Stripe panel just above. Connect is only offered to organizers once both the Stripe secret key and the Connect client ID are set; until then the settings screen warns you that “Connect is enabled but not finished” and organizers see no Connect option at all, rather than a button that fails.

Wrong signing secret? Stripe Connect events that cannot be verified are rejected, and the Payments screen shows a warning until the next verified delivery. Payout status on organizer cards stops updating until you fix the secret.

Your platform Stripe account must be in a region that supports Connect transfers. Automatic payouts are Stripe-only; organizers paid through PayPal or WooCommerce are always settled manually.

For Organizers: Connecting Your Stripe Account

Section titled “For Organizers: Connecting Your Stripe Account”
  1. Open your My Events -> Earnings dashboard.
  2. In the Get paid via Stripe card, click Connect with Stripe.
  3. Authorize your own Stripe account when Stripe asks.
  4. You return to your dashboard and the card shows “Stripe payouts: connected”.

If the card says you are connected but “not yet ready to receive payouts”, finish the remaining steps in your Stripe account (identity, bank details). As soon as Stripe marks your account ready, the status updates automatically - you do not need to reconnect. You can Disconnect at any time; that only unlinks the account on this site and never touches your Stripe account.

Go to Eventonomy -> Payouts. Every outstanding balance is listed - one row per organizer per currency, each with a Payout to column that tells you how it will be settled:

  • Stripe · ready - the account could receive payouts when it was last checked.
  • Stripe · pending - connected, but the account was not ready to receive payouts when it was last checked.
  • Manual - not connected; recorded and settled out-of-band.

Click Mark paid on a row (or pay from the CLI with wp eventonomy-pro payout <organizer_id>). That row’s earnings flip to paid, its outstanding balance drops to zero, and - for a connected, ready account - the money is transferred. Each row is a single currency, so an organizer owed in more than one currency has a row (and a transfer) for each; see Earnings & Payouts. The amount sent is the row’s Owed figure, after refunds owed back are taken off. If a transfer is declined by Stripe, nothing is marked paid: the balance is left intact so you can retry.

The Payout to chip is a quick hint from the last known state, which can be out of date when the Connect webhook is not set up. Mark paid checks Stripe again on the spot, and the confirm row tells you exactly what will happen before you click Confirm payout: “Sends a Stripe transfer of $409.50 to their bank” or “Records $409.50 as paid outside the site. No money moves.” If you paid this organizer yourself and the row says it will send a transfer, cancel and check their Stripe account first. If Stripe’s status changes between opening the row and confirming, nothing is paid and the row asks you to review it again. If Stripe cannot be reached to check the account, nothing is paid and you can try again; a connected organizer is never silently recorded as paid.

If Stripe does not answer the transfer request itself (a timeout), the money may or may not have moved, so the payout is put on hold rather than undone: it shows as Waiting on Stripe in Payout history, its earnings stay locked so they cannot be paid twice, and the organizer sees it as “Processing with Stripe”. Click Check with Stripe on that row: if Stripe made the transfer, the payout is completed with it; if not, the same transfer is sent again under the same payout, which Stripe can never turn into a second payment.

Review how earnings are booked and how refunds after a payout are handled.
