The Appearance tab controls how events look across the site: date and time formatting, the default event view, which views are available, calendar settings, recurring event configuration, and single-event page options.
Go to Eventonomy → Settings → Appearance to access these options. (This was the Display tab before the settings screen was consolidated into seven tabs; the old ?tab=display link still resolves here.)

Date & Time
Section titled “Date & Time”| Setting | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Date format | Site setting | PHP date format string. Defaults to your WordPress site date format. Example: F j, Y for “July 18, 2026”. |
| Time format | Site setting | PHP time format string. Example: g:i a for “6:00 pm”. |
| Week starts on | Site setting | First day of the week shown in the month calendar. |
| Pre-fill the end time of new events + Default event duration (minutes) | On, 60 |
When creating a new event, the end time is filled in as the start plus this many minutes. Untick to leave the end time empty. Capped at 10080 (one week). |
Event Views
Section titled “Event Views”| Setting | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Default view | grid |
The view visitors see when they land on the Events page (/events/). Options: Grid, List, Month, Upcoming, Week (Pro), Day (Pro). Week and Day are shown but not selectable until Pro is active. |
| Show a view switcher on the archive | On | Adds view-toggle buttons above the events list so visitors can switch between enabled views. |
| Enabled views | Grid, List, Month | Tick the views visitors can switch between. Free offers Grid, List, Month and Upcoming (a new site starts with the first three; tick Upcoming to add it); Pro adds Week and Day to the same list. At least one must remain on, and the list falls back to Grid if you untick everything. |
| Events per page | 10 |
Number of events shown per page in list and grid views. Clearing it or entering 0 restores the default. |
| Archive layout | grid |
Fallback layout when no explicit view is selected: Grid or List. |
| Show past events | Off | When on, the events archive includes events whose start date has passed. |
| Only show recent past events + Days of past events to show | Off | When “Show past events” is on, tick this to limit how many days back to include. Unticked shows every past event. |
Calendar View
Section titled “Calendar View”The Calendar view feature card enables the month calendar block. Toggle it on or off to show or hide the calendar view site-wide.
| Setting | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Max events shown per day (month view) | 3 |
Caps the number of event entries visible per calendar cell. Overflow is indicated by a “+N more” link. |
| Highlight today | On | Highlights the current day’s cell in the month calendar. |
| Day starts at | 8 |
First hour shown in the week/day hour-grid (0 to 23). Pro only. |
| Day ends at | 22 |
Last hour shown in the week/day hour-grid (0 to 23). Pro only. |
| Time slot size | 30 |
Granularity of the week/day grid: 15, 30, or 60 minutes. Pro only. |
Pro - Day starts at, Day ends at, and Time slot size apply to the Week and Day grids, which require Eventonomy Pro. Without Pro the three fields are visible but locked.
Week & Day grid caps (Pro)
Section titled “Week & Day grid caps (Pro)”With Pro active, two more fields appear inside the same Calendar view card. They stop a busy day from producing an unreadable wall of blocks in the Week and Day grids.
| Setting | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Limit events per time slot + Events per time slot | Off | How many events one time slot shows before the rest are collapsed into “+X more”. Unticked: no limit. Week view also never shows more than three side-by-side columns; a bigger crowd ends in a “+N more” block that opens that day. |
| Limit events per day + Events per day (all slots) | Off | How many events one day column shows in total. Unticked: no limit. |
Recurring Events
Section titled “Recurring Events”The Recurring events feature card enables or disables the recurrence system site-wide.
| Setting | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Expand recurring events up to (months ahead) | 12 |
How far ahead the occurrence materializer generates instances. Range: 1 to 60 months. Increasing this value generates more rows in evnm_occurrences; decreasing it stops generating distant dates until the horizon catches up. |
Single Event & Cards
Section titled “Single Event & Cards”| Setting | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Single event layout | Ticket (new installs) |
The layout every event page uses unless an event overrides it: Ticket (identity rail and a ticket you register on) or Classic (a cover across the top). Sites upgrading from an earlier version keep Classic. Both fit any theme width and handle online and recurring events. See Single event layouts. |
| Timezone display | Event time zone |
How event times are shown to visitors. Event time zone shows the event’s own time with its abbreviation. Visitor’s time zone shows each visitor the time in their own device time zone. Both shows the event time, plus the visitor’s own time on a second line when it differs. It applies to the event page, a recurring event’s Upcoming dates, and event cards. Display only: times are stored in UTC, and emails and calendar files always use the event time zone. New events start in the WordPress site time zone (Settings > General); the organizer can change it per event. |
| Show organizer on the single event | On | Shows the organizer name below the event title on the single-event page. |
| Show who’s going (avatars + count) | On | Social proof near the registration area: recent attendee avatars and the going count. Names appear only as hover/screen-reader labels; emails are never shown. Turn off for privacy-sensitive events. |
| Show a location map on the single event | Off | Shows an embedded OpenStreetMap plus an “Open in Maps” link when the event has coordinates (e.g. imported, or geocoded by Pro’s Maps & geocoding under Connections); an address without coordinates shows only the link. |
| Show comments on single events | Off | Renders the WordPress theme comment section on the event page. Comments must also be enabled on the Event page itself (Edit Page → Discussion). |
| Show image on event cards | On | Displays the cover image on event cards in Grid view. |
| Card excerpt length (words) | 20 |
Number of words shown as the event description excerpt on cards. |
| Use my theme’s colour for buttons and links | Off | Off (recommended): Eventonomy uses its own green, checked for readable contrast on every surface. On: buttons and links adopt your theme’s primary colour instead - which is not contrast-checked, so after switching it on, look at a Register button and confirm the text is still readable. |
| Default cover image URL | (empty) | A fallback banner shown on events that have no cover image of their own. Paste an image URL (for example from your Media Library). Left empty, cover-less events fall through to the automatic coloured placeholder. |
