SnipShare stores pastes, collections, and stars in its own database tables. This page explains what happens to that data when a member leaves, and how it works with the WordPress personal data tools.

When you delete a user in Users, WordPress asks what to do with their content.

  • Attribute all content to another user: the member’s pastes and collections move to the user you choose. Collections whose name clashes with one the new owner already has are deleted.
  • Delete all content: the member’s pastes are permanently deleted, with their files, revision history, tags, and collection links. Their collections are deleted too.

In both cases the member’s stars are removed and the star counts on those pastes are corrected. Reports the member filed stay in the moderation queue, without the reporter’s name.

On a multisite network, SnipShare data is per site. Deleting a user from the whole network cleans up the site where you run the deletion; their pastes on other sites stay until removed there or erased with the personal data tools on each site.

Tools > Export Personal Data includes a SnipShare pastes section. It contains each paste’s title, description, visibility, date, link, and the full content of every file, plus the member’s collections and starred pastes.

Tools > Erase Personal Data permanently deletes the member’s pastes (with files and revisions), their collections, and their stars. Reports they filed are kept without the reporter’s name. Large accounts are erased in batches of 20 pastes; WordPress repeats the request until everything is gone.

Erasure cannot be undone. Export the data first if the member asked for a copy.
