The Note Icon Is Not Showing
The floating “Create a Note” icon appears only when several conditions are met. Work through this checklist.
1. Is the learner logged in?
Section titled “1. Is the learner logged in?”The icon never shows for logged-out visitors.
2. Is the icon enabled?
Section titled “2. Is the icon enabled?”Go to WB Plugins > LMS Notes > General and confirm Display “Create a Note” Icon is set to Enable. If it is disabled on purpose, add the [lms_notes] shortcode to the specific page where you want the icon.
3. Is the learner enrolled?
Section titled “3. Is the learner enrolled?”The icon shows only to users enrolled in the related course. Two common cases:
- The learner is not enrolled in the course/lesson being viewed.
- The course is an open/free LearnDash course - the icon is intentionally hidden there.
4. Is the current post type allowed?
Section titled “4. Is the current post type allowed?”Under General > Limit notes to specific modules, make sure the post type you are viewing (course, lesson, topic, quiz, assignment) is ticked. For non-LMS content, add it under Enable notes for additional post types.
5. Is the learner’s role allowed?
Section titled “5. Is the learner’s role allowed?”Under General > Select user roles allowed to create notes, confirm the learner’s role is selected. Administrators can always create notes.
6. Is a supported LMS active?
Section titled “6. Is a supported LMS active?”At least one of LearnDash, LifterLMS, Tutor LMS, Sensei LMS, or LearnPress must be active. If none is active, LMS Notes deactivates itself.
7. Theme or cache
Section titled “7. Theme or cache”If everything above is correct but the icon still does not appear, clear any page/CDN cache and test with a default theme to rule out a theme conflict.
