Retention

The Retention view is the second sub-tab under Analytics. Access it at WB Plugins > BP Statistics > Analytics > Retention.

This view tells you how well the community is keeping members coming back, independent of how many people are joining today.

The view is a sub-tab under Analytics:

Analytics > Activity & Engagement / Retention / Engagement / Profile Fields / Advanced Analytics

Bookmarks to the old stand-alone “Retention Rate” page open this view.

Three KPI cells at the top of the view show recent login activity at increasing windows.

KPI Definition
Active Today Members whose last login was today.
Active This Week Members whose last login was within the past 7 days.
Active This Month Members whose last login was within the past 30 days.

The numbers stack: a member counted in “Today” is also in “Week” and “Month”. The widening windows are a sanity check: if Today and Week are close, you have a daily-active core; if Month dwarfs both, you have weekly drop-ins.

A single horizontal segmented bar that splits all registered members into four health bands, with a percentage pill underneath each band.

Segment Definition Color cue
Active Logged in within 7 days. Green
At Risk Logged in 8 - 30 days ago. Amber
Dormant Logged in 31 - 90 days ago. Soft red
Inactive No login in 90+ days, or never. Muted grey

The bar is rendered as a stacked single row, with each segment’s width set to its percentage of total members. The legend chips below show the raw count, the percentage, and a one-line definition each so the bar is readable even without color.

The “At Risk” band is your highest-leverage cohort. They were recently engaged and might come back with a single re-engagement nudge, far cheaper than recovering Dormant.

A single big-number KPI that answers: what share of your registered members logged in this month?

  • The big number is the current month’s retention rate.
  • A trend indicator (Improving, Stable, or Declining) shows the direction compared with last month.
  • A sub-line shows the raw numbers, for example “412 of 1287 users logged in this month”.
  • If the rate changed since last month, the change is shown, for example “+3% from last month”.
  • A small “Total registered users: N” line anchors the percentage to the absolute member base.
  • Active Today below 2% - even with many registered members, almost nobody is around right now.
  • At Risk larger than Active - engagement is decaying faster than you’re replacing it.
  • Monthly retention trending down 3+ months in a row - structural issue, not seasonal.

Cross-reference with the Overview > Community Pulse “Coming back” signal. Retention is based on logins, while the Pulse is based on posting, so together they show whether members who return also take part.

Retention uses the last login the plugin records each time a member logs in. Members who registered before the plugin was activated and have not logged in since count as Inactive until their next login.

If you’ve just installed the plugin on an established community, run Settings > Maintenance > Full historical indexing first. It fills the activity log so charts elsewhere are populated, but you’ll still need members to log in once before the Retention bands stabilize.
