Introduction to BuddyPress Statistics

BuddyPress Statistics is an analytics plugin for BuddyPress and BuddyBoss communities. It helps administrators understand how members interact with their community through activity charts, engagement metrics, and retention analysis.

What This Plugin Does

BuddyPress Statistics records and visualizes your community’s activity:

  • Community health - a Community Pulse score with suggested next steps
  • User activity tracking - see who is active, when they last logged in, and what they are doing
  • Group analytics - track group activity, member growth, and top contributors
  • Retention analysis - see whether members keep coming back, with user health segments
  • Activity log - a searchable record of community actions
  • Profile statistics - let members view their own impact, streak, and journey on their profile
  • Engagement charts - graphs showing activity trends over time

Key Features

Admin Dashboard

Open the dashboard from WB Plugins > BP Statistics. It has six tabs:

  • Overview - Community Pulse, members to know about, community summary, top groups, and top contributors
  • Analytics - five views: Activity & Engagement, Retention, Engagement, Profile Fields, and Advanced Analytics
  • Users - per-member data table with filters, exports, and a per-user drill-down
  • Activity Log - every recorded action, with date, user, and topic filters and exports
  • Settings - three sub-tabs: General (what shows), Display (who sees it, retention, privacy), and Maintenance (reset and full indexing)
  • License - activate your license for updates and support

Frontend Statistics

Members can view their own statistics on their profile when the feature is enabled:

  • Your impact: reactions received, comments received, and posts shared, compared with the member’s own previous period
  • Day streak and personal best
  • Your journey: milestones such as first post and first group joined
  • Optional charts: activity over time, engagement, private messages, and group participation

Group pages can also show a Statistics tab with:

  • Group activity levels
  • Top contributors
  • Group growth
  • Active vs. inactive members

Widgets

Three sidebar widgets are available:

  1. BP Stats - Member Activity Summary - a member’s activities, comments, friends, and groups with an optional chart
  2. BP Stats - Group Analytics - analytics for the group being viewed
  3. BP Stats - Groups Overview - totals for all groups and the most active groups

The Member Activity Summary widget is also available as a shortcode: [bp_stats_modern_widget]

A BuddyPress Summary widget is also added to the WordPress Dashboard.

Requirements

  • WordPress 6.5 or higher
  • PHP 8.0 or higher
  • BuddyPress or BuddyBoss Platform, installed and active

Compatibility

BuddyPress Statistics works with:

  • BuddyPress
  • BuddyBoss Platform
  • Youzify
  • BuddyX, Reign, and most BuddyPress-compatible themes, including their dark mode

The plugin detects which BuddyPress components are active (Activity, Groups, Messages, Friends, Extended Profiles). Reports that need an inactive component show a short notice explaining which component to enable.

Translations

The plugin is translation-ready. It ships one translation template, buddypress-stats.pot, in its languages folder, and works with Loco Translate and other translation tools. See the FAQ for Loco Translate tips.

Performance

Section titled “Performance”
  • Statistics are cached to reduce database queries
  • Full historical indexing runs in batches, so it is safe on large sites
  • Old activity log entries are removed daily, based on your retention setting
  • The activity log table is optimized weekly

Privacy and Security

Section titled “Privacy and Security”
  • The admin dashboard is available to administrators only
  • Member Statistics tabs are limited to the roles you choose
  • IP anonymization is on by default
  • Members only see statistics they are allowed to view
