Activity & Engagement
The Activity & Engagement view is the first sub-tab under Analytics. Access it at WB Plugins > BP Statistics > Analytics > Activity & Engagement.
It plots how members and groups are interacting over time, with separate toggles for User Activity and Group Activity so you can compare the two without losing context.
Where this sits

Segmented switch: User vs Group
Section titled “Segmented switch: User vs Group”Two buttons at the top of the card switch the chart between two views:
- User Activity - activity from members across the community.
- Group Activity - activity inside one group you pick.
The page address remembers which view you picked, so refreshing or sharing the link opens the same view.
Toolbar
Section titled “Toolbar”The toolbar above the chart holds these controls:
| Control | Options | What it does |

| Group | Search box + group menu | Group Activity view only. Type to search groups by name, then pick the group to chart. |
| Range | Last 7 days / Last 30 days / Last 90 days | How far back the chart looks. Last 7 days is the default. |
| Date | Date picker | Anchors the chart to a specific day; the chart shows the range ending on that date. |
| Chart | Line Chart / Bar Chart / Area Chart | Switches the chart style. Pick Line for trends, Bar for comparison, Area for a sense of volume. |
The date picker is capped at today, so you can’t pick a future date, and it goes back to today when the page reloads.
Reading the chart
Section titled “Reading the chart”- Horizontal axis - dates across the selected range.
- Vertical axis - activity count for each date.
- Switch between User Activity and Group Activity with the buttons above the chart.
If the BuddyPress Activity component is turned off, the charts are replaced with a notice. If you’re on the Group Activity view and the Groups component is turned off, a similar notice appears for groups.
What to look for
Section titled “What to look for”| Pattern | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| Clear weekly rhythm | Healthy community - members have a habit. |
| Sharp drop with no recovery | Something pushed members away (server downtime, policy change, feature removal). |
| Slow downward drift | Quiet churn - pair with Retention to confirm. |
| Spikes on launch / event dates | Your prompts are working. Note what worked and reuse it. |
For a brand-new community, the chart has no data yet. An empty-state card explains that and goes away as soon as activity is recorded.
