Watch Stories

Tapping a circle in the stories row opens the story viewer, full screen on a phone and as an overlay on a desktop.

Move through a story

Photos show for the time the member set, or the site’s Story Duration. Videos play to their end, then the viewer moves on by itself. A video that can no longer be played is skipped instead of freezing the viewer, and a photo or video deleted from the Media Library is left out of the story.

On right-to-left sites (Arabic, Hebrew, Persian and others) the directions are mirrored: the left side and the left arrow key go forward, and the arrow buttons swap sides.

Like a story

Double-tap a photo or video (double-click on a desktop) to like it. A large heart appears and the like count goes up, without skipping to the next item. Double-tapping again keeps it liked. The heart button at the bottom likes and unlikes too, and shows the count.

Members cannot like their own stories.

Send the author a message

When BuddyPress private messaging is active, Message at the bottom of someone else’s story opens a new message to that member.

Seen and new stories

A circle with a coloured ring has something you have not watched yet. Once you have watched it, the ring turns grey and, if the site owner turned on Move Seen Stories to End, the circle moves to the end of the row. When the member posts something new, the ring is coloured again.

Your own story

When you watch your own story:

  • when the site owner has turned on Show Story Viewers, the bottom shows how many people have seen it (the eye and a number) instead of a heart, and tapping it opens who viewed it;
  • … at the top opens a menu with Delete. The story pauses while the menu is open, and Escape closes the menu first. Delete removes exactly the photo or video on screen; deleting the last one removes the story.
