WP Stories provides five shortcodes for displaying stories in different contexts.

Displays stories from a specific Story Collection (created in the admin as a wb-story-box post type).

Parameter Type Required Description
id Integer Yes The Story Collection post ID.
[wb-story id="42"]

Displays members’ stories in a stories row, the 50 most recent (developers can change this with the wp_story_activity_count filter). This is the primary shortcode for a stories page.

Parameter Type Required Default Description
form On / off No 0 Set to 1 to add a “Your story” control in front of the stories, so members who may post can add one from this page. 1, yes and enable all turn it on.
style String No Global setting Override the display style for this instance: Instagram, Square or List (case-sensitive).

Display stories with the submission form:

[wb-story-activities form="1"]

Display stories in the Square layout without the form:

[wb-story-activities style="Square"]

Displays stories for a specific user. Supports both individual stories and story collections (public stories with cover images).

Parameter Type Required Default Description
id Integer No Current user The user ID whose stories to display.
type String No single Story type: single for individual stories, public for story collections, both for both.
subs String No - Comma-separated user IDs to include as additional story sources.
form On / off No enable Set to disable (or 0, no) to hide the “Your story” control.

Display individual stories for user ID 5:

[wb-story-user-stories id="5"]

Display story collections for user ID 5 with the form hidden:

[wb-story-user-stories id="5" type="public" form="disable"]

Include stories from multiple users:

[wb-story-user-stories id="5" subs="6,7,8"]

A simpler variant for displaying a specific user’s stories. Does not include a submission form.

Parameter Type Required Default Description
id Integer No - The user ID whose stories to display. If omitted, stories from all members are shown; to show only the logged-in member’s stories use [wb-story-user-stories] instead.
type String No single Story type: single for individual stories, public for story collections.
subs String No - Comma-separated user IDs to include as additional story sources.

Display stories from all members:

[wb-user-stories]

Display stories for a specific user:

[wb-user-stories id="12"]

Displays the PeepSo activity story stream. This shortcode has no parameters and requires both PeepSo to be active and PeepSo integration to be enabled in the plugin settings.

[wp-stories-peepso]

If PeepSo is not active or the integration is not enabled, this shortcode outputs nothing.

The same stories rows are available as widgets under Appearance > Widgets (or the block-based widget editor’s Legacy Widget block).
