BuddyPress Integration
WP Stories integrates with BuddyPress to bring stories into your community’s activity feeds and member profiles.
Requirements
Section titled “Requirements”- BuddyPress active
- BuddyPress Activity component enabled
Enabling the Integration
Section titled “Enabling the Integration”- Open WP Stories (WB Plugins menu) and select the Integrations tab.
- Under the BuddyPress section, toggle BuddyPress Integration on.
- Click Save Settings.
The BuddyPress section only appears on the Integrations tab when BuddyPress is active on your site.
Configuration Options
Section titled “Configuration Options”Show Story Form on Activity Page
Section titled “Show Story Form on Activity Page”When enabled, members can post from the BuddyPress activity page: the stories row above the activity stream starts with their Your story circle, which opens the posting form. See Post a story.
Enable Story Collections
Section titled “Enable Story Collections”Lets members group stories into collections with a cover and a name, similar to Instagram Highlights. The posting form gains an Add to a collection section with a cover image and a collection name. Each collection shows as its own circle under its name; stories without a cover stay in the member’s Your story stream.
Show Story Viewers
Section titled “Show Story Viewers”Shows the author who watched each story: one compact row per viewer with their photo, name, when they saw it, a heart if they liked it, and a Message button when private messaging is active. Only the author sees it. See See who viewed your story.
How It Works
Section titled “How It Works”Once enabled, stories appear at the top of the BuddyPress activity directory page. Members see story circles they can click to view, and the story feed respects the display style you configured on the General tab (Square, List, or Instagram).
When Show Story Viewers is on, members also get a Stories tab on their BuddyPress profile, titled Your stories, where they can watch and delete their own stories and see who viewed them.
Visibility and Privacy
Section titled “Visibility and Privacy”WP Stories supports friends-only visibility when the BuddyPress Friends component is active. When posting, members make one Who can see this story choice that applies to everything they share in that post:
- Public - Anyone can see - everyone, including logged-out visitors
- Members only - logged-in users
- Friends only - the author and their BuddyPress friends (shown only when the Friends component is active)
- Private - You and site admins - the author and site administrators
These visibility options are configurable on the User Publishing tab, under Available Visibility Options.
