Importing References

Bring references in from a reference manager or another site by uploading a file.

Import from the admin

1. Go to References > Import/Export.
2. Choose your file. Supported formats are BibTeX (.bib, .bibtex), RIS (.ris), and CSL-JSON (.json).
3. Upload and run the import.
4. Review the summary - it reports how many references were imported and how many were skipped.

The format is detected from the file, so you usually do not need to select it manually.

Import from the front end

If you have enabled it, users can import from a page containing the [abt_import_references] shortcode. The same formats apply.

Coming from Zotero, Mendeley, or EndNote

Export your library from that tool as BibTeX or RIS, then import the file here. Most reference managers, including Zotero, Mendeley, and EndNote, can export to at least one of these formats.

Duplicates

The importer checks for existing references so re-importing the same file does not create duplicates. Entries that already exist are skipped and counted in the summary.
