Reference Types
Every reference has a type that controls which fields apply and how the entry is formatted in each citation style. Types follow the CSL model.

Choosing a type
Section titled “Choosing a type”- When you use Auto-Cite, the type is set from the fetched metadata.
- When you add a reference by hand, pick the type from the Type dropdown on the reference edit screen.
The type determines which fields the citation style expects (for example, a Book uses publisher and ISBN, while a Journal Article uses container-title, volume, issue, and DOI).
