Following Lists and Activity

Follow a public list

1. Open a public list’s page.
2. Choose Follow List.
3. The list now appears under My Followed Lists on your profile.

To stop following, open the list and choose Unfollow List. You can unfollow a list even after it stops being visible to you.

If you are not logged in, the button reads Log in to follow this list and takes you to the login screen. The owner of a list sees Edit list instead of a follow button.

You can only follow a list you are allowed to open. A private list cannot be followed, and following a list that does not exist is refused. Following a list is limited to 30 follows or unfollows a minute.

My Followed Lists

The sub-tab shows the lists you follow, ordered by when each list was created with the newest first, ten to a page with Previous and Next links. Each row shows the list name, how many people are on it and its owner. The number beside the sub-tab counts the lists shown there.

Private lists are not shown to visitors who cannot open them. When you look at another member’s followed lists, you only see the ones you could open yourself.

View list activity

Open a list and stay on the Feed view. It shows activity from every person on the list, newest first, with a Load More button for older items. A list with no other people still shows its owner’s activity.

The feed on each list page is always on. It does not depend on any setting.

Lists in the site-wide activity stream

Under WB Plugins > BuddyLists > Visibility, Followed lists in the stream adds the people on lists a member follows to a stream that is already limited to certain people. It never hides anyone’s posts. It appears only when the site’s relevant activity feed is on. With it off, members see list activity only on the list page itself.

Follow members

When a follow feature is active, each person on a list has a Follow or Unfollow button. This is a separate setting from following lists. If the site owner switches Follow button off, new member follows are refused. Unfollowing still works.

Private list access

A private list can be opened only by its owner, the people on it and administrators. Everyone else sees the message the site owner has set. If a public list is changed to private, everyone who followed it while it was public stops following it. See Private Lists and Permissions.

Share a public list

Every public list has its own address, example.com/lists/<list-name>/, where lists is the word the site owner chose. Copy it with Copy link in the list’s options menu.
