BuddyLists Overview
BuddyLists adds Twitter-style list functionality to a BuddyPress or BuddyBoss community. Members can group other members into named lists, mark each list public or private, follow public lists created by others, and view a combined activity feed from every member of a list.
What members can do
Section titled “What members can do”- Create named member lists from a Lists tab on their profile.
- Add a description and a cover image to each list.
- Set each list to Public (discoverable and followable) or Private.
- Add and remove members from lists they own.
- Follow public lists and see them under a “My Followed Lists” tab.
- View a combined activity feed of all members in a list.
- Open a public list by its unique URL.
- Send a group message to members of a list, when the site owner enables it.
What the site owner controls
Section titled “What the site owner controls”- Whether the Lists tab appears on profiles, and what it is labelled.
- The URL slug used for public list pages.
- Per-user limits on the number of lists and the number of members per list.
- Which roles and member types may create lists and be suggested as members.
- Default visibility for new lists and the message shown on private lists.
- Notification behaviour when members are added to or removed from a list.
- Accent, background and border colours for the frontend interface.
How it fits together
Section titled “How it fits together”BuddyLists stores lists, list memberships and list follows in three custom database tables. Lists appear as a profile tab powered by the BuddyPress navigation system, and public lists are also served at their own front-end URL through a rewrite rule. Optional integrations light up when companion plugins are active, including BP-Follower style follow buttons and several BuddyPress activity add-ons.
