Plugins have two modes
1) Location AutoComplete
2) Place Type Check-ins suggestions.
You can opt for any choice as per your requirements.
With Auto suggestions, members can check-ins based on their input, it will auto-suggest places based on your input, and you can select from drop-down options. The plugin uses used google place API to provide suggestions.
With the Place Type check-in option, you will have nearby place suggestions, and you can select any of your nearby locations. To be more accurate, you can also reduce the selection range. For site-specific, you can also enable which type of places you want to enable.
