Overview
BuddyPress Private Community Pro turns an open BuddyPress site into a members-only community. It lets a site owner decide exactly what non-logged-in visitors can reach, and gives fine-grained, per-role control over what logged-in members can do once they are inside.
What it does
Section titled “What it does”The plugin works on two layers:
- Visitor layer (logged-out users). Lock whole BuddyPress components, individual WordPress pages, and custom post types so that people who are not signed in see a login or registration prompt, a custom message, or a redirect instead of the content.
- Member layer (logged-in users, per role). For each WordPress role, restrict access to BuddyPress directories and profiles, and set limits on groups, friendships, and private messaging. Optionally require members to finish their profile before they can use the site.
It also adds member-facing extras: a profile completion progress bar, member-controlled profile visibility, and fully customizable notice messages for every restriction.
Who it is for
Section titled “Who it is for”Site owners running a BuddyPress community who want it to be private, gated, or moderated rather than fully public. Common cases include paid or invite-only communities, staff or student networks, and sites that want new members to complete their profile before participating.

- Per-role restrictions on the Activity, Members, and Groups directories, single group pages, and other members’ profiles.
- Per-role limits on joining, leaving, creating, and viewing groups (public, private, hidden), plus a per-group member cap.
- Per-role friendship and private-messaging limits, including hourly, daily, monthly, and yearly message caps.
- Force profile completion (required fields, profile photo, cover image) with a redirect.
- Member-controlled profile visibility using BuddyPress visibility levels.
- Profile completion progress bar on member headers.
- Customizable notice text for every restriction.
