Section titled “Before you begin”Check that your site meets these requirements:

BuddyPress Giphy will self-deactivate and show an admin notice if neither BuddyPress nor bbPress is found at activation time.
Installing the plugin
Section titled “Installing the plugin”From the Wbcom Designs store
Section titled “From the Wbcom Designs store”- Log in to wbcomdesigns.com and go to your account downloads.
- Download the ZIP file for BuddyPress Giphy.
- In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins > Add New.
- Click Upload Plugin, choose the ZIP file, and click Install Now.
- Click Activate Plugin.
Manual upload via FTP
Section titled “Manual upload via FTP”- Unzip the downloaded file locally.
- Upload the
buddypress-giphyfolder to/wp-content/plugins/. - In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins and activate Wbcom Designs - BuddyPress Giphy.
What happens on activation
Section titled “What happens on activation”When the plugin activates, it:
- Redirects you to the settings page at WB Plugins > BuddyPress Giphy so you can add your API key.
- If bbPress is active, writes a default setting enabling GIF support in forum topics and replies (
topic_gif_support = yes). - Adds a
buddypress-giphy-activebody class on the front end.
Multisite: The plugin can be network-activated. Settings are stored in site options (
get_site_option) when network-activated, or in regular options otherwise.
Finding settings after installation
Section titled “Finding settings after installation”Go to WB Plugins > BuddyPress Giphy in the WordPress admin. If other Wbcom plugins are installed, they all appear as submenus under the shared WB Plugins top-level menu.
The settings page has four tabs:
- Overview: your current API key status, how many GIFs load per search, and which areas have the GIF button enabled.
- General: all configurable settings (provider, API key, GIF count, content filtering, rendition, and per-area toggles).
- Support: quick FAQ answers plus links to documentation and the support team.
- License: enter and activate your license key for automatic plugin updates.
