Section titled “Frequently Asked Questions”How do members add GIFs to their posts?
Section titled “How do members add GIFs to their posts?”Members see a GIF button in the activity post form, activity comments, private messages, and bbPress forums (wherever you have enabled it). Clicking it opens a search panel where they can search your chosen provider’s library (GIPHY or Klipy) and click any GIF to insert it.
Do I need an API key?
Section titled “Do I need an API key?”Yes. For GIPHY, create a free developer account at developers.giphy.com and generate an app key. For Klipy, create a free key at partner.klipy.com. Paste the key for your selected provider on the General tab. GIF search does not work without it.
Which GIF provider should I use?
Section titled “Which GIF provider should I use?”Pick GIPHY or Klipy on the General tab. GIPHY is the original, widely used provider; Klipy is a free alternative. Add the API key for whichever you select, and members then see GIFs from that provider. Only one provider is active at a time. See Choosing a GIF provider.
Why is the GIF button not showing up?
Section titled “Why is the GIF button not showing up?”Check that you have entered a valid API key for your selected provider, enabled GIF support for the area in use (Profile activity, Group activity, Private messages, or Forums), and that BuddyPress (or bbPress) is active. A green check next to the API key field confirms the key is working. See Troubleshooting.
Can members upload their own GIFs?
Section titled “Can members upload their own GIFs?”No. Members can only search and insert GIFs from your chosen provider’s library. GIFs stay hosted on the provider’s servers, so there is no storage impact on your site.
How do I keep GIFs appropriate for my community?
Section titled “How do I keep GIFs appropriate for my community?”On the General tab, set a maximum content rating for GIPHY (G, PG, and so on) or a content filter level for Klipy (off, low, medium, high). The provider filters results accordingly so members only see suitable GIFs.
Which GIF size should I choose?
Section titled “Which GIF size should I choose?”Original gives full quality with a larger file size; fixed-width and downsampled renditions load faster and suit mobile. Pick the rendition on the General tab based on the balance of quality and speed you want. See General settings.
What BuddyPress version is required?
Section titled “What BuddyPress version is required?”BuddyPress 2.6 or higher is recommended. The plugin also works with bbPress alone, and needs at least one of the two active.
Does it work with bbPress?
Section titled “Does it work with bbPress?”Yes. When bbPress is active, a GIF button is added to the TinyMCE editor for forum topics and replies. The forum toggle is enabled automatically on activation when bbPress is present.
Is it mobile-friendly?
Section titled “Is it mobile-friendly?”Yes. The GIF picker is responsive. For lighter data use on mobile, choose a smaller rendition (for example GIPHY fixed_width_downsampled or Klipy sm).
Does BuddyBoss work?
Section titled “Does BuddyBoss work?”No. BuddyBoss is not supported. If BuddyBoss is active, the plugin deactivates itself and shows an admin notice.
