First-Time Setup

After activating KnowX, follow these steps to get a working knowledge base site.

1. Install the Kirki Toolkit

KnowX’s Customizer options are provided through the Kirki Toolkit plugin. When prompted after activation, install and activate Kirki Toolkit. Without it, the KnowX Customizer panels (General, Typography, Knowledge Base, WP Login, Site Footer) do not appear. See Recommended Plugins.

2. Review your homepage

KnowX creates a Knowledge Base page on activation and sets it as your front page using the “Knowledge Base Layout One” template. Open Settings > Reading to confirm this, or choose a different static page.

To switch the homepage layout, edit the page and change its Template in the Page Attributes panel to “Knowledge Base Layout Two”, or create a new page with either template. See Knowledge Base Homepage.

3. Create your primary menu

KnowX registers one navigation menu location: Primary.

  1. Go to Appearance > Menus.
  2. Create a menu and assign it to the Primary location.
  3. Save. The menu appears in the site header.

4. Add your logo and site identity

  1. Go to Appearance > Customize > Site Identity to set your site title, tagline, and logo. KnowX supports a custom logo up to 250x250 px with flexible width and height.
  2. Use the Customizer’s Typography panel to style the site title and tagline.

5. Configure the header

In Appearance > Customize, open the General and header-related sections to:

  • Enable or disable the sticky header.
  • Turn the sub-header on or off (the sub-header holds the breadcrumbs and search).
  • Show or hide breadcrumbs and the search field.

6. Populate your knowledge base content

  • Create categories for your articles under Posts > Categories.
  • Write your articles as standard posts and assign them to categories.
  • The knowledge base templates display your categories and their posts on the homepage.

KnowX provides four footer widget areas (Footer 1 to Footer 4) and a copyright bar you can edit in the Customizer. See Header and Footer and Navigation and Widgets.
