The Reactions tab is where you choose which emojis appear for each content type. Open it at WB Plugins > BP Reactions > Reactions (this is the default tab).

Each content type has its own row of reaction slots, up to 8 emojis per type. The plugin ships with a default selection for each type. You can replace any emoji in a slot with a different one from the library of 204 emojis.

Content types covered:

Content type Where members see it
BuddyPress Activity Stream Activity feed posts
Activity Comments Replies within an activity thread
Blog Posts Single post pages
Forum Topics bbPress topic pages (requires bbPress)
Forum Replies bbPress reply entries (requires bbPress)
  1. Find the content type you want to edit.
  2. Click the change icon on the slot you want to replace.
  3. A modal opens showing the full emoji library.
  4. Click any emoji to fill the slot.
  5. Click Save Settings at the bottom of the page.

Changes take effect immediately after saving.

A content type does not have to fill all 8 slots. Slots left empty are not shown to members - the picker only displays slots that contain an emoji.

The default limit is 8 emojis per content type. Developers can change this with the buddypress_reactions_max_emojis filter. See the Hooks and Filters reference.

If no custom selection has been saved, the plugin uses these defaults (referenced by their emoji library ID and the label shipped for that ID - labels are editable on the Manage Emojis tab):

  • Activities, activity comments, and blog posts - 8 emojis: Thumbs Up (64), Sparkling Heart (190), Hugging (36), ROFL (5), Hushed (42), Pouting (29), Crying (26), Angel (7)
  • Forum topics and replies - 4 emojis: Grinning (1), Angel (7), Upside-down (8), Winking (9)

Animation preferences are stored per content type and applied automatically. animation controls how the emoji picker animates when it opens, and react_icon_animation controls the icon shown on the button after a member has reacted. Both default to animated (true). A value of false disables the Lottie animation and shows a static SVG instead.

  • Settings - enable or disable reactions per content area and configure notifications
  • Forums - toggle reactions on forum topics and replies
  • Manage Emojis - rename emoji labels
