BuddyPress Reactions turns the single BuddyPress Like into a full set of expressive emoji reactions across your community. Here is what the plugin gives you.
Emoji reactions on every content area
Section titled “Emoji reactions on every content area”Members react with emojis instead of a plain Like on:
- BuddyPress activity posts
- Activity comments
- Blog posts and blog comments
- bbPress forum topics
- bbPress forum replies
Each area is toggled independently, so you can run reactions only where they make sense for your community.
Per-content reaction sets
Section titled “Per-content reaction sets”Every content type has its own reaction set of up to 8 emojis, chosen from a library of 204 built-in emojis. The defaults are:
- Activities, activity comments, and blog posts - 8 emojis (library IDs 64, 190, 36, 5, 42, 29, 26, 7)
- Forum topics and replies - 4 emojis (library IDs 1, 7, 8, 9)
Swap any emoji in a slot on the Reactions tab. Empty slots are simply hidden from members.
Animated emojis
Section titled “Animated emojis”Emojis render as Lottie animations or static SVG. Animation is configurable per content type: the picker animation and the reacted-icon animation each default to on and can be switched to a static SVG.
Renamable emoji labels
Section titled “Renamable emoji labels”Rename any of the 204 emojis to fit your community’s language or tone on the Manage Emojis tab. Labels appear as tooltips in the picker, in the who-reacted popup, and in the Reactions Log. Renaming changes only the text, never the emoji itself.
Replace the Like or Favorite button
Section titled “Replace the Like or Favorite button”Optionally hide the default BuddyPress Like or Favorite button and let reactions take its place. When a member reacts, any existing Like or Favorite record for that item is removed so counts do not double up.
Reaction notifications
Section titled “Reaction notifications”When enabled, the content author receives a standard BuddyPress notification whenever a member reacts to their activity post or comment.
Who reacted
Section titled “Who reacted”Hovering the reaction count opens a popup listing the members who reacted, grouped by emoji. The popup shows up to 10 members per item.
Reactions Log
Section titled “Reactions Log”The Reactions Log tab lists every reaction recorded on the site, with user, content, post type, emoji, and date. It supports search, bulk delete, and CSV export.
Stats widgets
Section titled “Stats widgets”Three sidebar widgets surface reaction activity:
- (BuddyPress) Reactions List - most-used reactions over a chosen period, in a grid or list
- (BuddyPress) Reactions - Modern - a compact grid or list with optional totals and labels
- (BuddyPress) Reactions Stats - a chart-based statistics widget
Widget results are cached in the WordPress object cache for one hour.
Developer extensibility
Section titled “Developer extensibility”Action hooks fire after a member reacts or unreacts, and filters control the emoji limit, asset loading, supported themes, template paths, and default post types. See the Developer Guide.
Internationalization and RTL
Section titled “Internationalization and RTL”All strings are translatable through the buddypress-reactions text domain, and the frontend supports right-to-left languages.
