How Series Work

A series is a collection of related posts presented in a specific order. When a reader views any post in the series, they see:

  • Navigation to previous and next posts
  • A table of contents showing all posts in the series
  • Their reading progress (if enabled)

Creating a Series

You create a series by adding posts to it. There are two ways:

Method 1: When Creating a New Post

  1. Create a new post as usual
  2. Find the Series section in the post form
  3. Click Create New Series
  4. Enter a name for your series (e.g., “Complete WordPress Guide”)
  5. The post becomes Part 1 of your new series
  6. Publish your post

Method 2: Adding to an Existing Series

  1. Create or edit a post
  2. Find the Series section
  3. Click Add to Series
  4. Select from your existing series in the dropdown
  5. Set the position (Part 2, 3, etc.) or leave blank to auto-increment
  6. Save the post

  4. Save changes

Removing a Post from a Series

  1. Edit the post
  2. Find the Series section
  3. Click Remove from Series
  4. Save the post

The post remains published but is no longer part of the series.

Deleting a Series

  1. Go to Member Blog → Series
  2. Find the series and click Delete
  3. Choose what happens to the posts:
    • Keep posts – Posts stay published, just unlinked from series
    • Delete posts too – Posts are also deleted

Multi-Author Series

Series can include posts from multiple authors:

  • One author creates the series
  • Other authors can add their posts to the same series
  • All posts appear together in the series
  • Each author keeps ownership of their own posts

This is great for collaborative projects or community guides where different experts contribute parts.

Use Cases

Tutorial Series

“Learn JavaScript in 10 Days” – Sequential learning path where each post builds on the previous one.

Storytelling

“My Travel Adventures” – Chronological narrative that readers follow in order.

Reference Guides

“Complete SEO Guide” – Comprehensive coverage readers can jump between as needed.

Course Content

Course modules where each post is a lesson, with progress tracking for students.

Tips for Great Series

  • Plan ahead – Outline your series before writing
  • Consistent naming – Use clear part numbers (Part 1, Part 2, etc.)
  • Link naturally – Reference other parts in your content
