How On-Site Notifications Work

When a blog-related event occurs, members see a notification in their BuddyPress notification bell (usually in the header or toolbar).

Shows an unread count badge when new notifications arrive
Click to see a dropdown of recent notifications
Each notification links to the relevant content

Notification Events

Members receive on-site notifications for these events:

Event	Notification Text
Post Approved	“Your post [Title] has been approved”
Post Rejected	“Your post [Title] was not approved”
Co-Author Invitation	“[Name] invited you to co-author [Title]”
Invitation Accepted	“[Name] accepted your co-author invitation for [Title]”
Post Published	“Your post [Title] is now live”

BuddyBoss App Support

If you’re using the BuddyBoss mobile app, notifications are fully supported:

Push Notifications

Members receive instant push notifications on their mobile devices. The notification text is shortened for mobile screens.

Badge count – Shows unread notifications on the app icon
Deep links – Tap notification to go directly to the content

Viewing Notifications

Members can view their notifications in several places:

Notification Dropdown

Click the notification bell in the header to see recent notifications without leaving the current page.

Notifications Page

Members can visit their full notifications page to see all notifications, filter by type, and mark as read.

Typically found at: yoursite.com/members/username/notifications/

Member Notification Preferences

Members control which notifications they receive:

Go to Profile → Settings → Notifications
Find the Member Blog section
Toggle individual notification types on/off:
- Post approval notifications
- Co-author invitations
- etc.
Save preferences

Note: If a member opts out of a notification type, they won’t receive it regardless of admin settings.

Email vs On-Site

Most events trigger both email AND on-site notifications. The combination ensures members don’t miss important updates:

Email – Reaches members even when they’re not on your site
On-Site – Instant feedback when members are actively browsing

Troubleshooting

Issue	Solution
No notification bell showing	Check BuddyPress Notifications component is enabled
Notifications not appearing	Verify Notifications module is enabled in Pro settings
