Before You Start
- BuddyPress or BuddyBoss with Activity component enabled
- Groups module enabled in Pro settings
- Activity Integration setting enabled (see below)
How Activity Integration Works
When a member publishes a post linked to a group, an activity entry is automatically created in the group’s activity stream. This notifies group members and encourages engagement.
What the Activity Entry Shows
The activity entry includes:
- Author’s name and avatar
- Action text: “[Author] published a new blog post in [Group Name]”
- Post title (clickable link to full post)
- Post excerpt
- Featured image (if set)
- Comment and like buttons
Enabling Activity Integration
- Go to Member Blog → Groups
- Find the Activity Integration setting
- Toggle it to On
- Click Save Changes
With this enabled, every new group-linked post creates an activity entry automatically.
Activity Privacy Rules
Activity entries follow the same privacy rules as the linked group:
| Group Type | Where Activity Appears | Who Can See |
|---|---|---|
| Public Group | Site-wide activity feed + Group activity | Everyone |
| Private Group | Group activity only | Group members only |
| Hidden Group | Group activity only | Group members only |
Important Privacy Notes
- Public groups – Activity shows in the main site feed, increasing post visibility
- Private/Hidden groups – Activity stays within the group, protecting member content
- This privacy is automatic based on group settings
Activity Entry Features
Comments
Group members can comment directly on the activity entry. These comments are separate from the post’s actual comments section.
Favorites (Likes)
Members can favorite/like the activity entry to show appreciation without leaving a comment.
Read More Link
Clicking the post title or “Read More” takes members to the full blog post.
BuddyBoss App Support
If you’re using the BuddyBoss app, group blog activities display properly in the mobile app with:
- Shortened notification text (optimized for mobile push notifications)
- Full activity display in the app feed
- Tap-to-view post functionality
When Activity Is NOT Created
Activity entries are only created for published posts. No activity is generated when:
- Post is saved as draft
- Post is submitted for review (pending)
- Post is scheduled for future publication
- Post is edited (only initial publish creates activity)
Use Cases
Community Engagement
Activity entries notify members when new content is posted, driving engagement without requiring manual announcements.
Content Discovery
For public groups, activity entries help posts reach a wider audience through the site-wide feed.
Discussion Starter
Activity comments provide a quick way for members to react and start conversations around new posts.
Tips for Site Owners
- Enable for active communities – Activity integration works best when your community actively uses the activity feed
- Consider disabling for high-volume groups – If a group posts frequently, the activity feed might get flooded
- Encourage engagement – Remind members they can comment and like blog activity posts
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
| Post published but no activity | Check that Activity Integration is enabled in settings |
| Activity not showing in site feed | Group may be private/hidden – activity stays in group |
| Activity shows but links broken | Check permalink settings – flush if needed |
| Duplicate activities | Check for plugin conflicts with other activity plugins |
