Creating a New Group
The group creation wizard walks you through five simple steps to set up a LearnDash group. You do not need access to the WordPress admin area.
Who Can Create Groups
| Role | Can create groups |
|---|---|
| Administrator | Yes |
| Group Leader | Yes, if your account has group management turned on |
| Instructor | No |
| Student | No |
If you do not see the Add a New Group button, ask your site administrator to enable group management for your account.
Starting the Wizard
- Go to your dashboard and click Groups in the sidebar.
- Click Add a New Group in the top-right area.
- The five-step wizard will open.
Step 1 — Basic Info
Enter the group’s name, description, and cover image.
- Group Name — required. This is the name students and leaders will see.
- Description — optional. Shown to group members on the group page.
- Cover Image — optional. Displayed on the group listing card.
Step 2 — Courses
Select which courses belong to this group. Students who join the group automatically gain access to all selected courses.
Step 3 — Members
Add students to the group right away. Search for students by name or email address. Students you add here are enrolled immediately and can access all courses from Step 2.
Step 4 — Leaders
Assign Group Leaders who will manage this group. Leaders can view the group in their own dashboard under Group Administrations.
Step 5 — Settings
Configure optional group settings:
- Pricing and access type (free, paid, or invitation only)
- Maximum group capacity
- Redirect page after a student enrolls
Review and Publish
After Step 5, a summary screen shows everything you’ve entered. Click Publish Group to create it, or use Previous to go back and make changes.
When editing an existing group, the final button reads Update Group instead.
Editing an Existing Group
From the group listing, click Edit on any group card. The same five-step wizard opens with your existing settings pre-filled.
If you have the Uncanny Groups add-on active, the edit screen also shows a Seat Management panel and group hierarchy information above the wizard.
