Configure the core behavior of BuddyPress Hashtags from the General Settings tab.

Hashtag Length Limits
Minimum Characters
Sets the shortest allowed hashtag length.
- Default: 3 characters
- Recommended: 3 characters
- Purpose: Prevents single-letter tags like #a #b
Maximum Characters
Sets the longest allowed hashtag length.
- Default: 16 characters
- Recommended: 16-20 characters
- Purpose: Keeps hashtags readable and manageable
Content Type Settings
Enable bbPress Hashtags
Controls hashtags in bbPress forums, topics, and replies.
When Enabled:
- Forum topics support hashtags
- Replies support hashtags
- bbPress hashtag widget available
- Related discussions linked together
Enable Blog Hashtags
Controls hashtags in WordPress posts, pages, and comments.
When Enabled:
- Blog posts support hashtags
- Pages support hashtags
- Comments support hashtags
- Post/Page hashtag widgets available
Feature Settings
Enable Hashtag Suggestions
Controls the autocomplete feature when typing hashtags.
When Enabled: Suggestions appear as you type, shows existing hashtags with usage counts, helps prevent duplicate/variant hashtags.
Enable Hashtag Following
Controls the ability for users to follow hashtags.
When Enabled: Follow buttons on hashtag pages, Settings > Hashtags tab in user profiles, Followed Hashtags tab in profiles, Most Followed Hashtags widget available.
International Language Support
Enables non-English and Unicode hashtags.
When Enabled: Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hindi supported. Emoji hashtags allowed. Length restrictions disabled.
Prevent Profanity Hashtags
Integrates with BuddyPress Profanity plugin.
Requirements: BuddyPress Profanity plugin installed and active.
When Enabled: Profanity words not converted to hashtag links, appears as plain text instead.
Saving Settings
- Make your configuration changes
- Click “Save Changes” button
- Changes take effect immediately
