The hashtag following system allows users to create personalized activity feeds containing only content from topics they care about.

How to Follow a Hashtag
Method 1: From Hashtag Results
- Click any hashtag in content (e.g., #photography)
- On the hashtag results page, click the “Follow” button
- The hashtag is now added to your followed list
Method 2: From Settings Page
- Go to your Profile > Settings > Hashtags
- Type a hashtag name in the “Add Hashtag” field
- Click “Add” or press Enter
- The hashtag appears in your followed list
Note: You can only follow hashtags that have been used at least once in your community.
Viewing Followed Hashtags Feed
- Go to your profile
- Click the “Followed Hashtags” tab
- See a feed of all activities containing hashtags you follow
Managing Followed Hashtags
View Your Followed Hashtags
- Navigate to: Profile > Settings > Hashtags
- See all hashtags you currently follow
- Each hashtag shows its usage count
Unfollow a Hashtag
- Go to Profile > Settings > Hashtags
- Find the hashtag you want to unfollow
- Click the “Unfollow” or delete icon
- Confirm the removal
Privacy
- Your followed hashtags list is visible only to you (in Settings)
- The “Most Followed Hashtags” widget shows aggregate counts, not individual followers
- Other members cannot see which hashtags you follow
Enabling/Disabling Follow Feature
Administrators can enable or disable the follow hashtag feature:
- Go to WB Plugins > BuddyPress Hashtag > General
- Find “Enable Hashtag Following” option
- Toggle ON or OFF
- Save changes
When disabled, follow buttons are hidden, Settings > Hashtags tab is hidden, and existing followed data is preserved (not deleted).
