Members Directory Settings

Get Started

These options are responsible for managing the member directory searching and map-related features in the BuddyPress members directory. They provide various tools for displaying maps, enabling location-based searches, and customizing proximity search settings to enhance the user experience and improve local community engagement. Below is a detailed explanation of each option:

These settings can be accessed by navigating to the WB Plugins> Check-ins Pro > Member Directory Settings.

Display Map on Members Directory

This option, when enabled, will display a map on the BuddyPress members directory page. The map visually represents the locations of members, making it easier for users to see where other members are located.

This feature is particularly useful for sites that focus on location-based communities or groups and adds a geographical element to the directory.

It helps users quickly find and connect with members in specific locations, promoting local interactions and real-life connections.

Enable Proximity Search on Members Directory

This option replaces the standard BuddyPress member search with a proximity search.

When enabled, users will be able to search for other members based on their geographical location rather than using traditional keyword searches. This makes finding nearby members much simpler and faster for users who want to connect with others based on physical proximity.

It allows users to find members near them, improving local networking and making it easier to plan meetups or join local events.

Distance Units

This setting allows you to define the unit of measurement used for proximity searches. You can select between Miles or Kilometers, depending on the region or audience of your site.

It Provides flexibility for users from different parts of the world by letting them search in their preferred distance measurement.

Radius

The Radius option allows you to define the distance range for proximity searches. You can enter a single numeric value (e.g., 25) to set a fixed radius, or provide multiple values separated by commas (e.g., 10, 25, 50, 100, 200).

When multiple values are entered, they will appear as a dropdown in the proximity search form, allowing users to select their preferred search radius.

This offers customization for users by allowing them to choose how far they want to search for other members. It accommodates both users looking for nearby members and those interested in finding connections farther away.

Hide Default Search on Members Directory

Enabling this option hides the standard BuddyPress search bar on the members directory page. This is particularly useful if you want users to focus solely on the proximity search or other custom search methods.

It simplifies the interface, ensuring that users concentrate on the proximity search, especially in communities where location-based connections are the primary focus.

Hide Member(s) from the Directory Map

This setting allows admins to select specific members and hide them from appearing on the members directory map. Certain members may prefer not to display their location or may not be relevant to location-based searches (e.g., admins or moderators).

This provides privacy control for specific users and helps avoid cluttering the map with members who should not be visible for geographical searches.

Enable Nearby Me Tab on Members Directory

This option adds a “Nearby Me” tab to the members directory, allowing users to see members who are located near them. It uses the proximity search settings to filter and display members based on the user’s current location and defined radius.

It makes it easy for users to find people in their vicinity, promoting local engagement and encouraging real-life connections within the community.

Select Nearby Radius

This option lets you select the default radius that will be used for the “Nearby Me” tab and proximity search. It defines how far away members can be for them to be considered “nearby.” For example, setting the radius to 25 miles means only members within that distance will appear in the search.

Customizing the default nearby radius ensures that members see relevant results based on their location, making searches more efficient and focused on the immediate area.
