Manage Member Location

Get Started

The Member Location feature enables users to identify and find other members based on their geographical locations, enhancing connectivity within the site. This is accomplished by adding a location xProfile field to each member’s profile, allowing them to specify their location.

By enabling members to share their locations, it fosters stronger connections among users who may want to interact with others in their area.

Users are more likely to participate actively in the community if they can easily find and connect with nearby members.

xProfile Fields Usage

To activate this feature, users need to navigate to WB Plugins >> Member Locations and enable the location field. There are two options for the address field:

Single Address Field

This accepts the address in a single line format. A single-line address input is straightforward for users, making it quick and easy to enter their location without unnecessary complexity.

After selecting this option, you need to map the profile field for the address by selecting the location field from the Location/Address dropdown.

Note: Before doing this, you must create the location field manually by navigating to Users >> Profile Fields >> Add New Field. Once created, it will appear in the dropdown for selection.

Mapping the profile field to a single address simplifies the process of locating members on the map, allowing for quick identification of member locations.

Multiple Address Field

This option allows for entering addresses in multiple fields (e.g., street address, state, country). Users can enter addresses in a structured format, making it easier to manage and display multiple components of an address (e.g., street, city, state).

This option allows users to provide more comprehensive location information.

To use this option, you need to create several profile fields corresponding to the various address components.

Note: You must select the same profile field for the street address and the Select Autocomplete Field (for Google Maps) to enable the autocomplete feature.

Setting the Location for Display

Members can set their location by editing their profiles.Members have control over what location data they want to display, allowing them to keep their information updated and relevant.

Allowing members to edit their profiles facilitates timely changes in location, ensuring that others see accurate and current information.

Location Autocomplete Functionality

The Check-ins Pro feature offers location autocomplete functionality using both OpenStreetMap and Google Maps. This streamlines the process of entering location data by suggesting addresses as users type, making it easier for members to input accurate locations.

The autocomplete feature streamlines the input process by suggesting addresses, reducing errors, and improving the overall user experience.

It speeds up the address entry process, as users can quickly select from suggested locations rather than typing out full addresses.

Displaying Location on the Map

Once members set their locations, these will be displayed on the map, allowing other users to visualize member locations and enhance interaction within the community.

Displaying member locations on a map provides a visual context that enhances the understanding of community distribution and engagement.

Members can easily see who is nearby, encouraging meet-ups, collaborations, or participation in local events, fostering a sense of community.
