BuddyPress allows users to create custom friend lists and view activities based on those lists. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how users can create a friend list and filter activities accordingly:
Steps to Create a Custom Friend List
- Login to the Account:
- Users need to log in to their BuddyPress account.
- Navigate to BuddyPress Profile:
- Go to the profile section within BuddyPress.
- Access the Friends Section:
- Click on the “Friends” tab in the profile.
- Open the Friend List Tab:
- Click on the “Friend List” tab to manage friend lists.

- Add a New List:
- Click the “Add List” button to create a new friend list.

- Enter the name of the list

- Manage Members:
- Click the “Manage Members” button.

- Choose users from the “Suggested” tab to add to the new friend list.

Viewing Activities Based on Custom Friend Lists
- Go to the Timeline Tab:
- Navigate to the timeline tab in the user’s BuddyPress profile.
- Filter Activities:
- Click on the activity filter.
- Select the recently created friend list from the filter options.

I chose Arianna from the suggestion list for the “Custom List,” so when I select that filter, I see Arianna’s activities.

Hide Activity Filter/Tab
If a user wants to hide the activity filter of the friend list, they can do so by following these steps:
- Navigate to their BuddyPress Profile.
- Go to the “Friends” section.
- Select “Friend List.”
- Edit the friend list they have already created.
On this popup, they will find the option to disable the activity tab.

Example Scenario
- Creating a Friend List:
- Jane Doe logs into her BuddyPress account.
- She goes to her profile, clicks on “Friends,” and opens the “Friend List” tab.
- Jane clicks “Add List” to create a new list named “Book Club.”
- She then clicks “Manage Members,” selects two friends from the suggested list, and adds them to “Book Club.”
- Viewing Filtered Activities:
- Jane navigates to the timeline tab.
- She uses the activity filter to select “Book Club.”
- Now, Jane can see activities only from the two friends in her “Book Club” friend list.
